Router Questions
Howdy y'all, just got my cable modem hooked up, WOW night and day from my old dial up. Any way I am computer savvy (I built the machine I am using now). Before I started using my cable modem I went and bought a router. It is a small Linksys router with a 4 port switch made by Cisco Systems. Brand new. I want one to have a good hardware firewall to protect my computer. Does anyone know how to control the ports. Like port 80 is the main port for the internet. I know there are may others. I need to know how to open and close the ports. That way I know there isn't a "back door" open to my computer. Any information would be appreciated.

its help you manage your ports.
ENJOY
i have one, you need to punch in the number it gives you in the book on your web browser. i forget what it is, but its like 192.1.1 something, then you can get into the spots where you can open/close your ports. i also called their tech line, they were very helpful.
upersleder, I tried that idea you had. It does go into the router configuration. It does not have what I am looking for, I was hopin it would show me what is open / closed as far as ports. I downloaded the Currports program that dieselminded suggested. It works. Now I have to learn what ports are for what.
