The 'Rest in Peace John Horton, your family and friends honor you!' breakroom.

This weeks breakroom is dedicated to the memory and legacy of John Horton, Grandfather and mentor to our friend Matt. (Red3quarter)

Matt, your friends here at DTR would like you to continue this thread any way you see fit. If you want to share, we're here to listen or laugh, what ever you chose. We respect and appreciate your Grandfather's contributions to our world and to making you the individual you are. You have family here as well as at home. I'd also like you to know that someone else brought this idea to our attention, one of your friends here. We all endorse the gesture and share the sincerity he felt by suggesting it.

Good job, Rick.

A lot of us got together and decided to do this for Matt, he is a good friend to us, and his family's memory is very important to us.

Thanks to Chaikwa for coming up with the idea.

Currently drinking a beer and enjoying some company.

I want to thank all of you for your prayers and thoughts for my family, grandpa, and I over the past few weeks. You're all good people and are like an extended family to me! I was surprised tonight when I saw the name of the breakroom! I don't have much to say now (I'm a little speechless) but I can say I am very grateful to have people like all of you as friends! I am going to let mom and my aunt know about this thread, they'll enjoy reading what's been said too!

Scott, sent you a PM

Evening everyone, the service went well today. Got to visit with some good people. It was pretty upbeat for the most part. The hardest part for mom and my aunt was when they displayed the flag and played Taps. I didn't shed a tear but I've been that way always, I just don't show my emotions like some do. It still hit me hard when taps played for him and when i saw my cousin salute during the playing of taps(he just got out of the navy). I kept thinking about the good times grandpa and I had together and the good stories he use to tell me. I am glad that he's now at peace and can finally rest.

If any of you ever pass though Santa Rosa Beach Florida, there is a place named after my grandpa off of US-98 and 393, it's the "John Horton Senior Center of South Walton County".

Here's the obituary that was written for him...

Great job on the breakroom Rick and great idea to the ones involved.. Wish I could have stayed up lone enough to be a part of it. Matt, losing a grandpa is one of the harder things I've been through. Not many days go by that I don't think of both of them. My sincere condolences to you and your family.

Matt, glad things went well. You as with a lot of us here have been lucky enough to have been Loved, taught and shared in the life of one of the world hero's from the greatest generation gone by. Your life and the lives of the people he touched made this Country a better place, now it's your turn to pay it forward. God bless pal.

Oh what a night at the homestead. What turned out to be a small bon fire with the wife and another couple turned into, "hey, I heard you were having a bon fire" mind if we come up. Time to make a beer run.

Got a ton of stuff done yesterday so it wound up being the perfect way to end the day and start the new one. Think I pretty much demolished a case of Coors Light by myself. At least from the bottles I cleaned out of the yard.

Going to finish up some stuff then head out on the scooter for a few hours with the wife and some friends. I am really starting to like being an empty nester. WOOOOOHOOOOO.
