A Proud Papa! Updated! Pics are Posted
I just thought I'd share this with everyone.
This morning about 04:00, my 6 month old Bluetick "Diesel" started baying up a storm. So I got outside to see what the rackus is all about and he's got himself his first "kill" a big ole possum. I tell you what, I was so proud of him. I'm still grin'n ear-to-ear. I even had my daughter out @ 06:30 taking pictures of us together. I'll have some pictures posted tonight.

Good Boy. Theres something about Opossums that dogs seem to hate. Maybe they really are giant rats. I used to have a big ole dog and he would stop at nothing to get em. You could hear the bones crunching. One hot summer day he dug all afternoon to get one.

Well
here is the deal, I need ten species to skin and stuff, and i need to keep and collect the skulls. I had to get a trappers permit to get these species. They are 25 percent of my grade so i must do it, there is no way around it, unless i wanna start my semester with a C, and this professor demands ALOT!!
Skunks, armadillos, possums, rats, cottontails, jackrabbits, shrews, coons small javalina (collared peccary) small ferral hog, is what i have in mind..
I already have a coon, he has been stuffed too. ALOTTA WORK!!

Hey Tex. If you lived closer I could fill about half of that list for you with all the vermits we have around here. I wonder how long it take for a dead animal to start smelling? Would dead animals be considered hazardous material?

22 subsonic shot to each one behind the shoulder and minor tracking. How long does it take for a dead animal to start smelling? Well it all depends on the humidity, air temperature and present environment that the animal is in, The smell of the deseased animal is simply the actual bacterial growth on it, much like human bodily odor is caused by bacteria, and heat, once the heart stops beating in those animals, plain and simply there are no more anabolic and catabolic reactions in the animal, thus some bacteria are stopped from regulation in the body, and the smell starts to arise. You need maggots, to completely clean out the animal as well, that usually varies in a time legnth among the amount of insects present,
Anyways, if you freeze the animal, you preserve it in the state that it was killed in and that elimates the stench as well, Because the cold temperature has a natural influence to "preserve" and slow down the molecules present in the organism, it completely stops decompositon killing most of that harmful bacteria. Also Heat is a major influence in many metabolic pathways, as well as anabolic (make up reactions) and catabolic (break down reactions) in the organisms body.
Hope this helps and somewhat answers your question...
Thanks Buckshot!
