Proper way to dispose of fuel??
Anyone know the proper (not to mention legal) way of disposing of fuel... gasoline in particular? I have some 5 gallon cans in my garage filled with old fuel that was mixed with 2 stroke premix oil for dirt bikes. It's about 4 years old now (I know, shame on me) and I now need to dispose of it. I know that you can take old motor oil to auto stores and have them recycle it, but I've never heard of a legal and ethical way to get rid of fuels. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
He is in a different part of the country. Here it would just get poured along the fence to keep the weeds down. I never get excited over the epa stuff on this kind of waste. A block from me is an old gas station. Old Bill did oil changes for 40 years there. The old oil all went out back behind the station and got dumped. Same for half the old stations in the country. Not to mention the fuel tanks underground that rusted out and drained into the ground water. I know where at least four of these stations are currently. Until a few years ago, the dirt roads here were all the same, chert, liberally coated with engine oil, used of course. Used to have a setup to do that, several drums in the pickup and a pipe with holes drilled to spread the oil on the road.
While burn restriction are on and pollution is declaired a big problem from burning trash and having a bbq, the city does a project and scrapes an acre of brush and stumps together, loads it up with old tires and burns it. So much for pollution. Anyone ever notice the amount of runoff from a blacktop road the first couple of rain storms? It is only important to stop polluters when they are not you.

If it is mostly gas why not just add a gallon at a time to a full tank of gas in your car? OK, the oil contant may make the car smoke a little but that should not harm anything. Or give it to the neighbors kid to burn in his car.
I could burn a lot of fire ants with this much fuel!!
Thanks Hoss!
I thought of burning it through an engine, little by little, but am concerned that the fuel is so old, I could actually screw up the motor with detonating, etc. I don't have anything I'd want to put on the chopping block like that... although the neighbor's car idea has promise (thx mex)... and I DO still have my '99 gasser for sale... HMMMM
. Who cares if it blows up, right?
Here's a thought, with gas prices going through the roof, maybe I could sell it for $1/gal with "special mileage increasing lubricants" included for free and make some $$?? I'll put it on Ebay tonight. Or, I could be like a modern day Robin Hood, and instead of siphoning someone's gas... I could just put it into someone's tank as a favor!
In my part of the country, it is a BIG no no to dump and even more so to burn it. We are in the middle of a lengthy drought out here and the fire restrictions are crazy. I could spend some serious time in lockup if caught.
I know that they used to dump oil on the dirt roads here in AZ, but I believe they quit doing that probably 20-25 years ago.
I'll check with the local transfer station, as well as the fire station. Thanks for all the info guys!

Dang I know a couple people whose vehicles I would like to fill with that stuff!!
Ya could go out in the desert and shoot and them.
Dont worry it wont seem like a bad idea after a couple beers!
I am also in Az and I also thought that a "drought" was AZ's term for its weather here.
Or be completely honest. Stick out fron with a sign, "free to good car, slightly old fuel pre mixed I'm sure someone on a could find a use for it. Ya might even hear about it on the news one night.
