Leaky Injector on '97 Sunfire

#4 injector on the wife's Sunfire is leaking. I don't feel like changing them all as we're thinking of selling the car. Can a guy just buy one injector? Am I going to be embarrassed asking for one?

Yes, you can buy just one. The whole rail and injector assembly comes off as a unit, so you might as well replace them all. They've all been down the same road. If it's a V-6 you could just do the one bank where the leaker is.

Is it the injector or the o-ring leaking? They make o-ring kits, and if you look on e-bay I bet you could find a whole set of injectors for less than 10 bucks. There is a lot of people who hop up the 2.2l, which I assume you have, and replace the stockers for bigger ones.

I haven't looked at it closely. The wiring terminal on top is wet with gas. And it is the 2.2L 4-banger.

I looked at Advance, those little things are expensive. New about 67$, but there is a couple of them on ebay for 20 give or take. It looks like the s-10 injectors are the same, which may help. At the dealer I worked t out of school we always replaced the bad injector, not the whole bunch. Yeah, injectors can flow different rates. I personaly send my injectors to www.kgparts.com and he checks the flow and adjusts it for 6$ an injector. It may not hurt to pull all 4 and send to him. They disassemble them and rebuild them for a reasonable price. It might just need a o-ring in the body replaced or something. If it is no good, he does not charge for checking it out.

Good advice above. I have replaced many single injectors in the past. Price varies a lot, from $50 to over $150 per injector. I have sent many in for cleaning and balance testing which works well even where you have one injector that's bad enough to cause a miss. In my experience though, they can't fix an injector that's leaking externally. I would buy one new one, and consider sending the rest in for cleaning.

I never had one leaking externaly, so that is some good info to know. I have sent in new injectors for my 2.0 Cobalt and one of them was 11% higher flow than the rest. They were even Lucas high dollar injectors. It is worth the 24$ for peace of mind. Imagine if one was 11% less than the bunch.... fried piston! Three rich cylinders trying to compensate for the one lean, not good

Before you decide to do just one, pop the plug off the top of the other three injectors. I had a Cherokee with one (I thought) leaking in that area, when I removed the plugs I found 3 more for a total of 4 out of 6 leaking at the connector. I replaced all 6.

Check RockAuto.com for prices, they are often pretty good compared to the local stores.
