Has anyone ever changed the fuel pump on one of these cars ar similar? I have read all the info supplied by alldata but was looking for some real life hands on info. I have a 2 post lift at work so that should make it somewhat easier than laying on my back.
Get that fixed and sell the POS before something else breaks. Had to put a motor and a tranny in ours with less than 100k on it. Had about 40k when purchased, lovingly maintained afterwards. 2.2L and 3 spd auto. GAVE it to the father in law just because I can't get my hands on some dynamite.
I think it is a pressure/pusher pump actually in the tank. I had problems on a cavalier once -- the retaining ring was too rusty to move. I also had a rusted ring on an old LeBaron GTS that was a booger, until I realized I was trying to move the wrong part!
Not a bad job if the opening isn't jammed where you have to drop the tank to remove the pump. OH! Watch out for residual fuel pressure! That cavalier liked to about spray me to death!

Well, I got it done in about 1 hour. Plastic tanks are nice. I was told after that I could of just purchased the pump itself from AutoZone and saved some money. Not sure if that is true or not.
Ia James- I agree. I out 1,000 mile a week on that car and have to go over to steep mountains, I am just waiting for the tranny to crap out.
