2004 Pontiac GTP- Do I have a chance?

My buddy has a 2004 Pontiac GTP, 3.8L super-charged, cold air intake and a new pulley on the super charger. My mods are listed in my signature. Running the Smarty Jr ar 70 Hp and the XZTS Stacked. Should I load back on BDDL Crazy Larry or do I have a chance with what I have now? I do know I run 0 - 60 in 6.2 seconds... Tired of every time I see him and hearing how fast his car is. I already smoked his 5.7L Hemi, 1500 Megacab... Oh ya, almost forgot, I have a CFM+ intake sitting on the bench, just need to re-locate my FS2500...

Last edited by AkitaSumo; Jul 22, 2008 at 11:55 PM. Reason: added CFM+

My experience with #2 on Smarty is that it has a fade at 2500rpm. Go to #3 and it pulls hard all the way to rev limit. 4th gear is really killer. 5th also. Our mods are not that far apart except for the handshaker.

Have you researched the Pontiac? What does it run in the 1/4 mile stock? What does it 0-60?

straight out of motor trend....

.........Factory-provided acceleration numbers put the GTP at 15 seconds flat in the quarter mile. The claimed 0-60 mph time is 6.5 seconds..........

with a boosted launch on the street, I'd give you a slight advantage.

A boosted launch on his stock 48 might be his undoing with that smarty on lvl 3... Ill be the one on your right shoulder.. Haha

I've got a similar situation...brother in law has the 05 GTO with the LS2. It runs a 13.3-13.56 average. Not sure but what do you think about my truck being able to keep pace or take him?

I ran a GTP that got a little too smart and I smoked him and that's with a NV5600 every shift he would gain a little ground back but once in the shift it was see you and once in 6th it was over. I backed out at 100 MPH (3100 RPM) and had him by at least 100 ft.

A GTO though would be a different story. With the AT you would have a chance but me trying to shift would kill my chances unless we rolled on in 6th from about 70-100 MPH.

My sister used to have one and they are fast. I have the smarty sr so I am not sure how much difference there is with the Jr, but I say race him and let us know what happens. If you lose it is just a great reason to go get more mods.

With all your mods you shouldn't have too much of a problem. That would make for a great video though!!!

It was an early one of the 03 or 04 body style. He is a machinist by trade, and had made some very slick parts for the blower components that you couldn't see, and had motor work. I wouldn't assume that any GTP you run accross is going to turn a 12 on you, but you just never know. I used to be into street racing, so I know that you can't trust what you see (or don't see) or hear someone say about a car.

Not to mention that the GTP is front wheel drive and this guy will stand on it and lose all his traction anyway.

I had a 2000 Buick 3.8 supercharged (stock) and a 97 5 sp modded good for towing plus a turbo and 4". My 97 was faster! FWIW, I also never saw a Hardley Ableson that could beat that 97! Craig
