Thanks for starting a new breakroom.
Phoo is on and the dragon is fed. WOW, it seems like years since I last read this. Probably everybody who joined DTR in the last 2 or 3 years will have absolutely no idea what you are talking about and where this comes from.
Right now I am enjoying my retirement here in central Mexico. Today I am in my little off-grid cottage up in the mountains with my wife. No other houses in sight and no people. Just 1000's of trees. I call this my center of tranquility. This place is at an altitude of about 8,100 feet, so consequently is a bit chilly at times. No snow or frost. Could not afford this wonderful kind of lifestyle in the US or Canada. Here I am totally free to do whatever I want. eg, if I want to build a new building, then I just do it. No plans to submit or get approved, no taxes, no nothing. Love this place.

Kinda miserable up here in my part of the woods right now. 4 days of straight rain on top of frozen ground. We have avalanche warnings, flood warnings, and high wind warnings through the entire area. Now after a week of near 40° weather, tomorrow it takes a nosedive. By Wednesday it will be in the -10° +- range. All that pooled water with now where to go will become ice in a hurry. That creates a big problem for transportation of goods through the state considering everything comes through Anchorage mostly. Alternates are Whittier and Seward but neither have the marine capacity of Anchorage. Truck traffic will be shut down, but they all have rail service.

cougar, the wx that you are experiencing sounds horrible. Definitely not my cup of tea, which is why in 2001 I moved waaaaay down south to a more hospitable climate. My old truck has never seen snow or salt. Hope that you get a break soon and things quickly warm up for you.
Railroadone23, you may be surprised to discover just how cheap it is to live down here compared to the USA. I have a nice house in the city and my country cottage sits on 3 hectares (about 7.4 acres) of land with a tiny stream at one end. Lucked in and bought it dirt cheap in 2003 and now it is worth many times what I paid for it.
Bottom line is that with very little money but years of hard work on the land, I now live a lifestyle that many envy.
It looks like our winter is starting to break because today was an almost spring day. At sunup it was 7 degrees c and during the day with lots of sun it touched 24c.

This morning, I woke up to about a foot of snow, still snowing. Been snowing on and off sense yesterday morning, sometimes very heavy to whiteout conditions. The good part is it started while it was still above freezing allowing the snow to mix with the standing water as it froze during the day making the ice less slick. The bad side is the temperatures are dropping quickly and the block heater on the 1st gen with the plow doesn't work, bad cord. Somewhere I have a weed burner I can use in its place. I lived in Arizona for a few years. Too hot for me so I left for cooler climates. Dealing with the cold and snow is easy when you are prepared dealing with people that aren't isn't. It's like trying to save a drowning person that can't swim, they will push you under trying to stay up.

cougar, I hear you. Arizona is way too hot hot for me too. I live in what is officially called a moderate climate, so it never gets really hot nor very cold. If the normal hot or cold occasionally goes past the normal limits it seldom lasts for more than 3 days. I am comfortable with that.

Another cool morning at about 10F with some snow again today. We got about 3/4 inches yesterday and they are calling for the same today
Jan. has been on the cool side and the wood pile testifies to this.
Put on a pot of coffee just in case anyone else stops by.

No snow in my neck of the woods. Thanks Oliver for the coffee. Left a big bowl of assorted semi healthy (minimum sugar) home made cookies next to the coffee.
We are just coming out of almost 3 years of drought which unfortunately has killed many large mature trees all over the country. On my property have probably a few dozen large dead trees that I need to eventually cut down and split for firewood. I have work for the next couple of years just cleaning this mess up. Don't really need the firewood, but do have a fire pit and most weekends enjoy watching a fire in it with my wife. Today is chainsaw and axe day. One day hope to obtain or make a log splitter for the larger logs.

Currently 7°F with a -9°F windchill headed to -4°F ish by sunset. A few more inches of snow overnight and still lightly coming down, more ice crystals than snow. Forecast is for -10°F to -19°F until Sunday not including any wind chill, which there will be. Coaxed my crappy Home Depot snowplow to work enough to get most of the driveway cleared. The rest will have to wait until it warms back up to at least 20°F and I can make the plow work again. Our little homeless calico cat we put into foster care is doing quite well. She completed her quarantine and is allowed to be with the other animals in the house. She has made friends and is very happy. Four of our other colony cats disappeared, young ones. Turns out they belonged to a neighbor and where rehomed. The neighbor kept one of the youngest along with its mama. I'm also helping an old friend find a replacement for his cat that passed away. Mr. Morris has the zoomies the morning, so I need to go pick up everything he has knocked over. Later.

Cougar my son in law and daughter live up in Alaska he's in the Army stationed with the airborne he loves it. As I've gotten older I don't deal with the cold as well as I once did, it makes autherites hurt more.
were in the middle of a heat wave here calling for 60s in the next few days but we will have to pay for it latter. Things call fresh phoo and snacks. Later
