I was at a parade last week and the people that do not respect our flag when it goes by . How difficult is it to stand and take your hat off. Same thing next day for start of rodeo, Prayer and National Anthem, stand and take your dang hat off!! Makes me want to either walk around and knock the hats off their heads or just point them out and make them feel like dog doo. Sorry for the rant but AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!

I hear ya, my experience was the cell phone conversations did not stop or were even hushed. I keep repeating "I am not policeman to the world.." before I get locked up. actually, I do ask those within arms reach to remove their hats.....they do (give them an 'out' or way to save face by letting them 'remember' to remove it)

And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. Freedom is not free many American have died fighting for our freedoms here, the same freedoms you're trying to take away.

Obama does not respect our flag why should the people that put him in office not do the same.

The US is way more patriotic than us Germans over here. We just recently found out we have a flag we can be proud of. That was in 2006 during the soccer world cup. Every 2nd car had a flag on it during that time. Great times!

 

I always figured Germans held more reverance for their state flags? ALways see the state flags flying vs. national colors. If you want a flag to follow though, I have one for you.

 

I was amazed at the lack of respect shown at the last roping I went to.

 

My Dad who is 89, WW2 Veteran taught us "hat manners" from an early age.
National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance or any patriotic song, anything having to do with the flag.
No hat's indoors, especially when at the dinner table.
No hats ON the dinner table.
Take your hat off when you shake hands or are introduced to someone.
I can't remember all of them but I'm sure I still do them out of habit.

 

I agree! Hat manners are learned, we are not born with them. I taught my kids--did you teach yours? If they ever failed to take their hat off they got a snack in the back of the head. It didn't take many of those for them to remember.

Hey Redleg,

you´re right, our state flags are important to us. But I think during 2006 things changed a bit and a lot of germans began to be more proud about their origin and national flag. I believe that is good as we were in a somewhat stagnating situation (WW2 etc). Getting a bit more confidence as people of our country is a good thing.

I agree. I was taught hat manners very early.

We have a few at our church that do not take their hats off in the sanctuary. It really peeves me that they expect me to believe they are getting the message when they don't even have the respect to remove their hats during worship. Not mine to judge though, deep breaths, deep breaths...

 

I agree with the OP, I am 23 years old and was raised to take my hat off for all of the things mentioned above plus more.

Also, the picture of the man in the wheelchair standing up as the flag goes past is eye opening... very good picture that needs to be seen by many more.
