Jetta TDI
ALRIGHT BUCK......do some asking around for me:
Figured out my issue:
Injection PUmp timing slipped. It was off by 1 tooth from what i was told. Can the pump gear slip on the pump shaft like the 12 6BT's? OR can it jump a tooth on the belt......im not really buying this one...it runs too good and i woudl feel that it would jump at the cam or crank before the pump.....
We advanced the timing just a touch and now fires up and runs like a champ........and now my wife wants to drive it again............

How many miles on this guy again??? If it jumped timing then its more then likely got a bad tensioner. Do you know if anyone has ever messed with the timing on it prior to your purchase??? If so, it's possible they didn't replace the 3 bolts on the pump if they loosened them, there a stretch bolt.

Well in that case, 80k, that sucker is past due for a timing belt! No wonder why it jumped. Replace the timing belt, tensioner, there are a couple of rollers and bolts in there to replace as well. Also do the waterpump as I mentioned a few posts back. If ya want to shoot me your vin, I can get ya a list of parts. I understand that there is a company out there that makes an aftermarket kit that extends the T-belt service intervals to 100k like on the newer TDi.

Yeah....lookin at this one.....
UPDATE....got the car fixed.....actually drove it into work today....Wife visiting me!! AND this thing ain't no Cummins!
ISSUE: Idler Pulley bearings were GONE and T-belt tensioner was completely backed off.
The guy pulled the belt off with his hand after he took the cover off. No tension on the belt and the idler had bearings scattered through out the timing case. Idler was also eating up the water pump. Belt look to have been done at some point. Paint marks on the housing and gear. BUT not done very well. Needless to say....im suprised it made it 3 weeks of my wife driving it and didn’t make any noise! The guy that worked on it said there was no abnormal noise!
No banged valves.....don’t know how...but the Tappets look fine....no cracks!

Thats why a lot of shops recomend [ no warentee with out recomended sevices ] putting in a number of parts [ each eng. may need or not some ]
every T-belt change , water pump , tensoiner , idler pully ect.
With service of T-belts going over a 100,000 + , and the other parts are moved or covered by the T- belt , if the customer thinks that they are being taken [ not that this isn't true sometimes ] when this come up .
As a shop the costumer may expect you to cover a new/rebuilt eng. because they did not want to spend the extra $30-100 .
This may or maynot apply to anybody , but I like both parties , shop/customer to look at each others view point when there is a desission to be made .
