Jetta TDI

OK...Im a truck guy....but the wife is looking into getting a diesel.....she hates my truck...but likes the Jetta's. PLUS the things get 50MPG!!! SOOOO i know nothing about these cars....and i would assume there are issues and years that need to be avoided just like on our trucks. In comparison, im looking for performance and driveability oriented stuff......What models turn up good (heard some years are better than others. Like how the SO VP-44’s will run better than the HO VP-44’s when turned up….suff like that but for a V-Dub TDI if you can follow me) and what years had issues.

Any suggestions welcome…and Praise the Lord my wife is looking at a diesel!

If we get one....guess we have to make a FASS for it.......HUM..........

From what I've "heard". VW builds these things for the common person. Generally someone who know nothing about diesels or the internal comustion engine for that matter. I know two people personally that don't know anything about anything and theirs have run great. They aren't high hp or tq motors so they have less problems. If my wife would go for it I'd get one.

Check out www.TDIClub.com this is where I get alot of my info. My wife drives an 06 tdi 5spd and loves it, 43-46 local and 53.6 on a 700 mile trip last friday. All I need now is a lift kit for it, it doesn't tread 12 inches of snow very well

My dad drives a 2000 vw tdi even though i think its a girls car i dont blame him for driving it for his situation (driving 80+ miles to work and back a day) has been a great car except for we have had a couple of problems with the intake. the shop we took it to told us that there was carbon getting built up in the intake tube cutting of the air. which in turn threw the Check engine light which took all of his power away untell we got it fixed! other then that i highly recommend one just for the mpgs its awesome!

I just looked at the VW website and they don't seem to offer the diesel in 2007 models. What's the deal? Is it the emissions?

Hey Dan,
I know this is a half edited by admin roundabout way. But check the VW TDI forum for a guy that goes by the nick of Oldnavy. If you can't find him there, check out the Diesel Liberty page here. http://www.lostkjs.com/forum/phpBB2/...6f9646deb72e33

He's a heck of a nice guy and seems to know his stuff, kinda like Wannadiesel in the first gen forum.

Good luck man!

Yep, exactly. Look for a new one in '08.

I've had my heart set on a diesel auto for years but couldn't find one that had any git-up-and-go. The VW diesel looked OK but my DW wanted more room. So, I took the big step and ordered a 2007 Mercedes E-320 with the Bluetec diesel. Owners say it will get better than 40 MPG if you are gentle with them. But with 388 ft-lb of torque it will suck the headlights out of many sports cars. I opted for European delivery to save about 4 grand. The car has been made and I will pick it up in Stuttgart in a couple of weeks. My wife & I will spend a week in Germany cruising the autobans. Then they ship it back to the USA.

Don't overlook the Passat. It's a bit bigger and has a lot more power. I love mine.
