Interstate 81 through Virginia

Wondering if someone would be kind enough to tell me what kind of road 81 is through the state of Virginia. ( as far as mountains and general road condition) Looking on the map it looks like I may hit some good size hills, just wanted to check with some of you guys to see....I could find an alternate route, but would be a little more out of the way, but may be worth it.

thanks in advance

Tractor trailer traffic on I-81 usually is running @ 70+ mph.
There are some decent size hills, and it's 2 lanes in each direction, but unless you're running REAL heavy, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

81 gets real crazy with truck traffic from Wytheville to Roanoke Va, then it thins out to a pretty decent ride as you head north.

Yeah I-81 is not too bad. There is only one really big hill if my memory serves me correctly and that is near Blacksburg. Like others said, there are lots of big rigs and they really move....70+ MPH. It's not uncommon to see them going 90MPH sometimes. The only thing is to be careful because anything over 80MPH in VA is considered reckless driving, and VA state troopers love hiding on I-81. I like to just get behind a big rig and cruise.

Thanks alot guys!!!

I think I'll give it a shot, Being from south-eastern Kentucky I'm no stranger to hills! But I wasn't sure..

I'll Be pulling back a load of amish furniture from Pennsylvania in a 24' trailer. So I'm guessing I won't have over 6000# Thats not to much weigh for the old truck I suppose!

thanks!
