NO overdrive + interstate = no good

I have to get the ignition switch fixed. I had to drive 8 miles on interstate at 50mph. Dangerous. I guess I'll be buying the manual for a 93.

Just had to vent

How does a broken ignition switch limit your engine speed?

Or am I missing something?

My truck only goes 80 with the stock governor spring and less-than-stock torque converter...

Begle, you have a different rear end gear ratio.

Mine will do over 70 in direct drive now.

I've gone 80 in drive with the torque locked. It will do over 100 in OD.

So 4.10's with a 1:1 drive ratio, stock tires and 2500 RPM equals a top speed of 50 miles per hour? That sucks...

Even 70 miles isn't drivable... I can hardly get around at 80, and I get ran over quite often...

So what does the ignition switch have to do with overdrive? I don't get it...

He has a bad contact in the ignition switch that should be feeding power to the PCM. The PCM is not getting power, so no OD.

He probably could have gone a little faster, but not everyone likes to hear the Cummins scream.

Yeah the OD is electric. It would run 70 ish. But I really don't like to push it that hard. I really wouldn't know how fast I was going since the speedo and everything else is dead. I may sell the old girl. I have it priced at $2800 cash firm!

Oh come on guys... Please tell me that there's no harm to be done at wrapping the engine up to its stock defueling point for a few hours at a time...

My truck defuels at about 2400 RPM but can freewheel to about 2700 RPM if there isn't a load on it. (Although I do recall seeing up to 2900 RPM a few times- I don't recall what I was doing, though...)

I know that whenever I get onto a freeway I put the pedal to the metal, then start making jerky back-and-forth body motions as I get passed by Peterbilts... I'm sure that my non-lock up tranny really doesn't like it, but the engine doesn't seem to bother it (although I haven't had it for all that long)...

Or am I just a moron?

You aren't gonna hurt it.

That is if you don't keep dropping it in reverse...

Seriously, though. In medium duty applications the truck speed is usually governed by the maximum engine speed. These things were built to run all day at rated RPM and still run 300k. When you add a 3200 RPM spring and start spending lots of time over 3k is when you should be concerned with the long term consequences.

Just took the truck out for a few G-tech runs with the new turbo installed, the tach isnt hooked up yet but I can tell you that it was defueling before the end of the 1/4. Now im in need of a posi and good tires because I can hardly keep the "tire" form spinning through first, which probably contributes to the 15.2 at 94mph. The thing falls flat on its face at just under 90mph, so i think its time for some 60lb valve springs and a new governor spring, anyone have a part number or source for something higher than 3200. Theres just no end to this bombing!

Mine falls on its face at about 90-95. I was going up hill and it pulls pushing about 26-28psi of boost and gets to 85 quick but after that it still keeps accelerating just not really hard. At about 90 i'm only turning about 2800rpms. I need bigger injectors!
