Horses Interstate

My question is, I am going to be taking some horses from Delaware to Florida I know they Need coggins and helth certificate, but do I have to stop at the weigh stations or anywhere else? Forgot it is a bumper pull trailer with 2-3 horses. Thanks for any advise.

Piro 710, if you don't get a response from any one on this site go to horsetrailerworld.com That site is just like the DTR site, someone knows the answer.

Check the regs for all the states you'll pass through. Some require stopping and some don't. Most states that do have a sign posted at the entery point if you need to stop with livestock.

I haul my horses in and around the east coast and as far as I know you should not have to stop at weigh stations with horses in a small trailer. I pull a goose neck that is 38ft over all and have no problems. Coggins and health certificates should be all you will need if your are pulled over to be checked out. www.horsetrailerworld.com This is a good site and has a good forum for this type of question.

I don't know about the rest of the states but you don't have to stop in Georgia, but when entering Florida you will have to stop at the Ag check station not the weigh station.

What twalker said. STOP at the florida ag station or they will chase you down. Pull past the staion house and go inside wtih your paperwork. An inspector will likely want to see the horses too but I never had to unload them. The coggins needs to be within the last 6 months for florida. Be sure to stop when you leave the state too.

I haul bees to Fl and have to stop at Ag station. I have seen them go after trucks w/horse trailers... they were not in agood mood when they left. Even if empty you should stop. ALL encolsed vehicles are required to stop!!

you do have to stop at the ag inspection station with horses. you must have a health certificate issued by a vet within the last 7 days. you will need a current coggins test to obtain a health certificate.

Just to be on the safe side, I stop at all weigh stations. Usually they'll just wave you thru. Florida and California are the two hardest to deal with. FL AG kept me waiting for three hours last year, while they found someone who could understand the paperwork.
