Javaluva, do you always leave your horses halters on? I know that this is an issue that can be debated from both sides of the fence. I have seen and heard of many serious injuries w/ halters left on. And have heard of the difficult to catch horses. Fortunately I can catch mine, I do have a mule that can test me, a few properly placed rocks at the right speed (high speed) on the rump will make her stop and wait for haltering. It's true ask any one that owns or has owned mules.

 

Looks like she was standing near my rig when I fired it up with those black spots on the rear.

It's true ask any one that owns or has owned mules.<br>[/quote]<br><br>Well, she is the type who likes to play chase rather than be caught, but I'm a lot sterner with her on this than her previous owner and she lets me catch her about 90% of the time. She's usually better at letting a female catch her than a male. If she does decide she'd rather run than be caught, a few laps around the pasture with me pushing her away usually does the trick at convincing her to let me walk up to her so I can snap her lead on. She does wear her halter all the time, has since she was a pup and is now 16 years old, and never an accident. The main reason I keep it on her is that she stays at my grandparents house (which is actually just down the hill from me) and if she ever gets out or they need to catch her, they need to be able to grab her without any hassle of putting the halter on. If it weren't for creating ease for them, I'd leave it off. I've never had her escape but there's always that &quot;just in case&quot;.....

 

Funny thing. We once had a small pony for our girls. Without a lariat rope in your hand she was almost impossible to catch. But with a rope, all you had to do was swing it, not actually rope her, and she would stand as still as a statue and let you walk up and catch her. <br><br>CR

Did someone use her for roping practice or something?
