I had a nightmare; and it said "U-Haul"...
So can anybody explain the story behind the guy at IRP this year who was bracket racing the U-Haul truck?
I can imagine that the whole thing was one man's way of mocking bracket racing in general, but does anybody have any details?
It's been bothering me on and off over the last month, and after waking up sweaty last night after seeing a giant "U-Haul" neon sign flashing on my eyelids, I decided to get to the bottom of it...

Which makes me think that he had to have been doing it out of a pure hatred of bracket racing...
(The sad part is that I think he could probably take my truck out-and-out... God, I lost to a GOLF CART driven by two MIDDLE SCHOOLERS once upon a time... )

Guy + Uhaul + Racing
dont' care who, when where, or why that's funny right there I could just see the guy at the rental counter, "hmmm 15 miles and you used 30 gallons of fuel" scratch scratch scratch

It's fun, as long as, you know, you're the one in the vehicle.
Or if you know the guy in the vehicle so you can make fun of him after he red-lights.
Otherwise, sitting between Top Fuel runs at NHRA Pomona Winternationals and watching Rent-a-Car Ford Explorers race and beat 12 second split window Corvettes just isn't right. But, bracket racing is a test of the driver, not the car.

It was a pretty funny sight. I think I got a video of it still. I'll have to check. But the crazy thing was he cut a .003 reaction time. I bet if it got widespread coverage U-haul rates would go through the roof!

Back when I bracket raced there was a guy that used to win ALOT.. he would rent a Ford, bring it in and run all day.. he told me one trick was to never shut the car off so the computer never reset itself.. he would just let it idle all day and his numbers were spot on every time..
I was told that GM cars computers adjust to the drivers habits.. If you are easy on them they have more power.. if you drive with your foot on the floor they get slower...

This is like, when you were a kid, and you said "Mommy, I want a pony and a car and a girlfriend and a million dollars and a club house and my own room and chocolate for breakfast", and she gives you everything.
I'm speechless.
