Hubbard Glacier Research

http://www.glacierresearch.com/
This Glacier in 2002 shoved so much material into Gilbert Point that it blocked of Russell Fiord from the sea, creating Russell Lake making the largest glacier dammed lake in the world. The lake reached 49 feet above sea level before the dam broke with a flood 30% greater than the largest measured flow ever from the Mississippi River. The Glacier has been thickening and advancing again, with the size it is now, if it blocks off the Fiord it could raise the lake to132 feet above sea level and spill over into the Situk River that is a clear water river and has the largest population of wild steelhead in the world. It would make a glacier stream larger than the Snake River.

Yes Everything in Alaska is Bigger......

Read about that a while back. Kinda neat phenomenon, but bad for the Situk from what I understood....

This is due to global warming/cooling or ambivalence?

I didn't start this thread to get into a debate over global warming, politics, or religion...
I thought I would start a couple threads other than the the same old stuff...

If this glacier blocks the Fiord, and it flows into the Situk, it will kill off the steelhead for 50 years or more. Read the home page I posted they have a laser range finder monitoring the movement. The one they have up now is sending data but they plan on updating it later next month.

Hmm, a couple of good old boys from Alaska should be smart enough to figure out the proper explosives charge to remedy that problem.............. Or you could have the USAF practice with a Daisycutter.

Man, would I love to be in charge of that project........
