Had a conversation with a mechanic today who claimed that a 454 GM weighs more than a 5.9 CTD. I find this hard to believe.

True or false?

Anyone have specs?

 

This "mechanic" must have been smoking something! Unless he thinks that is heavier simply because it has a larger displacement...

The Cummins ISB is just shy of 1000lbs. You can find the dry weight of it on their website if you need to get specific.

 

Tell him to take it to the scales, and the looser pays the bill AND buys lunch.

 

He's looking for the weight of the Cummins itself, not the whole truck.

 

He is a bonafide heavy eqipment/ Ag equipment mechanic. He personally drives a '93 3/4 ton CTD.

He claims a 454 with cast manifolds etc weighs more than his CTD.... I still saying hooey....

Conversation started when he mentioned he'd like to pull his CTD out to do some seals etc and work on the tranny.

I couldn't find these specs on www.cummins.com

 

I just sent a message to cummins.com asking them for the weight of a fully assembled 5.9
Now waitng for a reply.

How much does a fully assembled 454 gasser weigh?

 

How many 454 cranks does it take to make the weight of a CTD? How many connecting rods equal 1 CTD? How many licks to the center of a tootsy pop?

 

How much wood coulda woodchuck chuck,...........

 

470 kilograms, 1,036.17lbs dry weight

 

454s wiegh 685 dry.

 

12v = 930lbs

Ask him did he weigh his 454 with both front tires on the scale, and if the headlites were on or off - that alone will make a big difference............

 

I can tell you a fully dressed 2nd gen 24v weighs 1050 lbs. My 454 with an aluminum intake and water pump with headers weighs 670 lbs fully dressed....an ALL iron 454 with iron 'folds weighs 715 lbs fully dressed.
