Re:How Did We Make It?

Yall are .

Scotty, I can't believe that they took off Bugs Bunny. I watch that everyday of my life as soon as I get out of school. Have I ever tried any of the things they've tried on there? No. I have enough common sense not to. Have I become violent from watching cartoons? I think not. My dad has watched Bugs Bunny all his life. And even at 45, he still watches them and laughs. And yet, he is probably the most level-headed guy on the planet. Cartoons didn't make him violent. I don't know. Maybe the kids of today are more impressionable then they were back then.

Mom never let me get the skates. I could only get the ACME powered rocket slingshot.

I made a cannon six feet long with a one foot area for the butane/gasoline and paper mix. IT had a taper to it to the end. On the end we would put a potato...never saw where they went but every dog in the neighborhood was barking usually followed by a loud smash or thump.

Manure and diesel with a fuse made some nasty craters in the ground...we were hunting gophers.
We had our cannons so powerful we could take out the side glass of a cop car from about 30 yards. We were 10-13 yrs old.

Another thing we really had fun doing was driving all the heavy equipment that was expanding the roads and neighborhood.
I lost control of a drag line and it took out several partially built houses...whoops.
We would have pallet jack races in the new shopping mall and the new schools...load up a pallet full of blocks and get your buddies to push and push. One of us usally bailed just before impact.
I never had anything to do with the gymnasium wall and roof collapsing. I remember my dad saying to my mom..."I hope they catch those lil BAS%^$#S and ring their necks." They never had any security and the buildings being half finished were wide open.

And theres me and my brother at the top of the stairs giggling like mad. :

Gotta run...black suburban just pulled up.

Re:How Did We Make It?

I loved living out in the boonies as a kid. At 12 was allowed to take the truck to neighbors or to the church to mow their yard. Learned to power slide on gravel roads at a early ageOne of the worst things Dad could tell us right before he left was ' dont do that ' , whatever it was just made it sound like fun. Things like, dont take the tractors into the woods, them wet leaves get slippery.. Heck that cant be true and if it is could be fun sliding around on, right. two days later finally get tractor out of hollow with three other tractors hooked to it. Dad was not happy about that.
What about the dukes of hazzard. My older brother and me used to miss school to plant corn (again 12 & 13 yrs old). One of us would drive the truck with wagon behind full of fertilizer other would drive tractor. Dad turned into the field one day just as we were running the truck through a big stack of burning fertilizer bags. Needles to say was not a pretty sight. Had to take the mt's home to burn after that one.
We must have looked like the beverly hillbillies to some people. There were six in our family and when it was nice out and the truck needed gas we would load the lawn chairs into the back and off to town we would go. The challenge was not getting flipped over on sharp corners. Little brother lost some teeth this way but it was fun. Heck now you can get in trouble letting your dog ride in the back of a truck.

Ever think maybe the world is getting dumber, could it be 'cause we don't let the really dumb ones self regulate their population with all of the new safty stuff?
