What kind of difference did your aftermarket TC make pulling?

Hey guys. I was wondering how much better your trucks pull with an aftermarket Torque Converter, and how much stronger it felt. Hauling in the summer there is a huge hill i have to pull from a dead stop, as there is a hard curve right before it. With a 32ft goosneck and 6 big round bales(6x6 i believe) i can get to like 35-40 mph by the time i get to the top of the hill(this was last summer before the GSK) wide open all the way up. Cant lock my stock TC or it will slip. I plan on a new TC very soon, and was wondering what kind of speed you guys gained by going to an aftermarket Torque Converter. I have plenty of power. The tranny just waistes it hauling the way it is though. My guess is that it would about hit 50mph or more with a better TC so that i could get to TC lockup. I will be gone most of tis week so i wont be able to reply till thursday, but was just curious how much stronger your truck pulled with an aftermarket TC. Also, my cousin has a 03 D-Max. Stock with allison. I would love to pull against him this summer if my tranny is done by then, and see what happens. I was the first to outrun him, so maybe i can be the first to outpull him?

Eric

I have a DTT 89 converter and can drive all day long without going over 2000 rpm, even with 8,000 trailer!! Sweet.
Tight converter is great. No need to lock it up and shift locked.

I would say you could gain about 5 mph with an empty truck, loaded it's hard to say, but it would definately be a lot better!

First time I pulled my 5er from a dead stop up a slight grade with the stock converter I just about had my foot to the carpet before the rig started moving!!
That was the day I picked it up from the RV dealer. I drove it home and got on the phone to ATS to order some tranny upgrades.
I would have to say that there was a huge improvement in the trucks abilitiy to move the wieght of my 16k lbs. 5er. I don't feel as if I'm killing my tranny everytime I try to get the rig moving.
With a valve body you also open up the possibility of adding power safely to your truck.

Thanks guys Those are the kinds of responses im looking for. I feel like i have to mash the pedal to get going anywhere right now. I would be in heaven to not have to go over 2k rpm's while pulling 8k lbs. Im leaving for Tenessee in a second so i wont be back till thursday but keep the replies coming! Thanks guys

My 94 in it's present state would simply not be able to tow ANYTHING with the stock converter!.....I could fry a stock converter with the truck empty in 15 minutes! A tight converter helps enormously on even a mildly bombed CTD - especially when towing. The stock converters are garbage and can't even get all the torque a stock CTD has to the ground....the lock up is useless on even a mildly bombed CTD when towing.....

Going to a good aftermarket converter is a mandatory upgrade if you tow.....you will be amazed at the difference in performance empty and loaded and will have wished you did it sooner!

I need to be carefull when I take off from a dead stop if it is raining. I will spin both rear tires without even trying. At 16,940lbs I can keep up with most traffic from a stop light.
