hi lift

so I have a hi lift jack that I have used mostly for back in the day when I had a toyota pickup and 4runner that I did a lot of 4x4 excursions with. I havent had a chance to use the jack with the dodge yet, until recently, I was missing my floor jack and needed to pop a rear tire off, so I went to use the high lift, but I couldnt get the truck more than an inch off the ground before it started shifting over, and the jack was pulling into the truck, which was about to leave a big ol scratch and dent in the metal.

whats goin on? is it all the weight just throwin the jack off balance?

I've never had good luck with a hi lift jack not doing what your describing. Where were you jacking from on the truck? Do you have the larger sand pad for the base?

Take the tail gate off...

Dunno what to tell you. They suck, and are dangerous, but they have gotten me out of a lot of bad spots. I have taken a 2x8 and bolted it onto the bottom for more support.

And they bend too easy too. I usually put a piece of wood between the top of the lift and the truck. Saves from scratches. And the 4 ton rating is b.s.
I bent mine all to hell lifting the rear of a 3500 dump which only weighed in a 4 ton for the whole truck.
