I've been really wanting to add some weight to my truck to make the ride a little smoother so I came up with a great idea that I thought I'd share with others.

I went to the local Line-X shop and had a spray in bedliner installed in order to seal the bed and prevent rust. I gave it a couple of days to cure and then poured a three inch layer of concrete in the bed and smoothed it out. In doing so, I not only added a good amount of weight to the bed to smooth out the ride, but I also gave myself a nice, smooth surface in the bed.

The results are outstanding. The truck rides smoother than ever and I now have the equivalent of a garage floor to work with in the back of the truck. Best I can figure for a short bed truck, this added about 1,300 pounds to the bed (roughly 8.75 cubic feet times concrete's weight of 150 pounds per cubic foot).

I highly recommend this for anyone looking to smooth out their ride.

How did you anchor the rebar?

I didn't use rebar. Rebar is really only needed if there is going to be any tension placed on the concrete. Since it is in the bed of the truck and there will never be any flex then there really isn't a need for rebar. I thought about putting some 6 gauge wire mesh in there, but didn't want to mess with it.

I didn't think you were serious, I thought this was a late April Fool's thread. At least you didn't reinforce it so you can get it out in small chunks when it cracks from the bed flexing.

Rod did that for a smooth surface for his Skating sheep display for Christmas. BaAaAAaAaBabs and her friends did one show and then one mile on the highway and the ice seperated from the concrete which ript the Line X free with large pieces of concrete and the pieces flew off the truck and hit other vehicles. Plus he lost BAaaaaAaBs somewhere.

I see the same thinking is not limited to any specific nation.

 

Hmmm I'd like to see that truck rolled on the interstate. All the cops wondering where these patio stones came from.....
