Good compressor for runnin impact & air ratchet?
Good compressor for runnin impact & air ratchet?
I was lookin a decent air compressor for a real good price to run my impact & air ratchet and whatnot for under $100 (I know, not a good budget, but all I have right now).
Found this one. Think it'll support an impact? I know it says max 135 psi and my impact runs at 90 psi, but I aint really know much about compressors truth be told.
If yall happen to know of any better deals, I'd certainly be interested!

I have a Craftsman with about the same specs as the one you listed. It'll run an impact, but I gotta wait for it to build up pressure between EACH lug nut. It won't even air up my truck tires to their max. It just doesn't have enough volume. Of course it was a gift, and it's use use and size make it perfect for my camper. It does duty airing up motorcycle and atv tires, etc.
I think you have to spend about $300 to get something decent. Try to get one thats oil lubed. I have one like this, its not bad but could be better:

PSI is OK but the capacity to deliver the volume you need isn't. I'm about to build a new rear bumper for you 3500, going to build it out of schedule 40 pipe and use it as the air tank.
Those 12VDC compressors are OK for occasional use but will leave you disappointed when you really need some air.
Get an engine driven compressor and you'll be very happy, use all the air you want, whenever you want, as much as you want. Find them in bone yards, commonly found in trucks and motor homes with air brakes. Got one in the shop, need a few hours to crawl under the truck and get it in there.
You can then run air horns. Believe it, they are real loud. Makes folks pay attention and get off the cell phone.

With a budget of $100 and wanting to run an impact wrench, I think you might be better off trying to find something used, or save the $100 and continue saving.
Like Dr. E said, the belt driven oil lubed ones are better. I've got a cheap-o direct drive oil-less, and although they are loud and disposable, for the occasional user (like me) they seem to last a long time.

MmmDieselFumes, I have the compressor you linked to in our 5th wheel. It is a good compressor but I do not think it will run a impact or ratchet. I have a 2 hp Craftsman compressor from Sears at the house with a 33 gal. tank and it runs all my air tools fine. I caught it on sale for $279 not long ago.
