Garage help needed..
Ok.. the wife and I are looking at house plans and I have some questions on garages or most exactly what size do we need to build..
We want a two car garage - she has a Honda CRV and I have my 2002 Quad cab 2500.. I want to be able to park both cars inside without worry about banging the doors on each other or the walls.. I would need some space for a push mower, upright freezer, and various yard tools..
What size would I need that our vehicles would fit comfortably based on your experiences of having or not having enough room.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
thanks
Brian

I think all will agree.
Figure out the largest possible space you think you'll ever need.......
Then Double It. (at least)
Mine is 30 X 30 with 10 foot ceilings and 2 7' High X 8' Wide doors.
I wish I had made it larger & taller.

24 x 24 is a decent sized 2 car garage, BUT just like Shovelhead said, bigger is better. Mine is 24 x 42 11 foot ceilings with a 16'x9' door and it was plenty big enough....UNTIL I bought more toys. Next ones gonna be 32 x 50 12" tall.

IMO, I'm sure you have to be realistic,if it's in a subdivision you'd better check with the rules, you my only be able to go so big. If possible again IMO 32 accross X at least 28 deep, that will give you room on the sides and enough room to walk around the truck when it's parked with the overhead door down. Must have a 8' high door,10' ceilings wom't hurt.Bigger is always better in this department but it's gotta look good too. I always said that I wanted a nice garage with an attached house I'm close now,(this is all I could get out of my wife) I have a 2200 S.F. ranch with a 1560 S.F. L-shaped attached garage, 10' ceilings,8' and a 7' X16' doors. I'm not much of a junk collector and it's filling up quick!

If you are building a new house, it's easy....... BIG GARAGE, small bedroom, microwave,
tv..... after all you can't sleep your life away.
Seriously, you can't have too much space. It's all your wallet can afford that matters.

The biggest problem with residential garages is the low door height. Definitly go as bis as you can go, you won't regret it. And make sure you have access to at least 50 amps 220 power in there, you never know what you may have in the future. I built my shop 24X36 with two lofts and with all my stuff its hard to get my truck in there, shoulda went 36X48

Something to consider besides size...LOL,
you might want a small side overhead door toward the front of the garage to get mowers, bikes ect. out without having to back your vehicles out. Also will allow the garage to be open without everybody driving by and seeing whats in you garage.

Thats MR Hoss to you buddy!
My garage is the typical 20'x22' that they put on most non-custom houses these days. It is WAY too small....and of course my truck has to stay parked in the driveway.
If I were building my own the absolute MINIMUM I would build is 30'x30'. Bigger is better if you have more room.
