Ford F-450/550

Just wondering as to what makes the the Ford 450's and 550's more capable than their 3500 siblings.

Visually, I can see they run the 19in. wheel, but do they have heavier drivetrain parts (axles, u-joints, etc)

Figure a 450 or 550 would make for a nice rig that would be could take lot's-o-beatings...off-roading and pulling have a way of tearing up drivetrains, as probably many of you know!

1 diff is instead of the sterling 10 1/4 rear in f250 and 350, the 450 gives ya a dana 80. the 550 has a dana 135 w/ 13.5 in ring gear.

Re:Ford F-450/550

The gears are real low. 4.30's, 4.88's and even some 5-something's. I got a customer who runs all Dodges but has a few 450's and 2-550's because I can't sell him anything like that. They do not like them much but what is the allternative? None, until Dodge comes out with their new med-duty in 2-3 years. :'( :'( :'(

Heavier frames, larger brakes - - increases the ability of the vehicle to carry its problems down the road. ;D ;D

NoFerdBob
