2008 Ford F-450

I saw this truck in the recent Truck trend magazine. Wow! Besides the engine I think the truck is pretty awesome. I like the axles and 19.5 inch wheels from the factory. 4.88 gears may be a bit steep though for highway cruising but Ithink the powerstroke revs higher than the cummins. the engine - what engine? I couldnt see it amongst the tangle of hoses and wires. The road test of this truck has not been done yet. That truck with a straight six would be awesome.

The 6.0 Powerstrokes need that higher rpm to be in the power band. The 6.4s will probably be a little better about having the low end power but it still comes down to V8 VS. I6. My header in the College Rodeos has an 06 with 4.30 rear end. He says he runs 75 at around 2500 (I think he said higher but can't quit remember right now) And it has to be at that rpms to not drop bad on the hills with his trailer hooked up. Mine didn't drop too bad with his trailer hooked up with 3.73s running 65. He does have a heavy trailer.

I've got 4.10's and at 2,000 rpms I'm right at 63mph. It's nice towing and the 4.10's help with the lag that the 6.0's are notorious for.

The tack goes to 5K. It doesn't have a redline on it! If I remember right it tops out at 4200.

Look forward to seeing it, but Ford has lost me as a customer. A truck without a reliable engine isn't worth much in my book. I hope they get it right this time around. I can honestly say there isn't much I miss about my F450.

I agree with Firstdodge ... I had 350 and with in the first 3yrs it was back to the dealer over 30 time's ...and not for little stuff ...I blew turbos , rears , tranmissions , leaks every where ... never agian ...I would consider a f-650 or 700 with a cat or cummins !

My 2 cents !

In a way some people might hope that the 6.4 is another failure. Maybe then they will sub out the engine to cat or detroit diesel and get a straight six in there. It's a shame becasue Ford has some really nice features on that F-450. Better off with the v-10 as far as reliability goes.

my new service truck is an F-550 with the 6.0. Drove it all last week, and not impressed at all. There are several issues that have come up with it already that don't sound good.....and it only has 6300 miles on it. Can't anybody build anything with some quality? I thought GM was leading the junk market?

I feel your pain, DodgeGuy71 - I was forced to drive F**d service trucks back in the 90's and the experience scarred me for life.

My '03 450 had 53K miles on it when I sold it. In that time had had to replace the upper and lower ball joints, rear main seal (3 times), front crank seal (2 times), multiple sensors, had a coolant leak, fuel pump went out, and multiple programming issues. Had $60K in that truck . . . makes me sick to think about it . . thought I would have it for at least 10 years . . . had it for three.

Well, I know my 05 don't have that many miles on it. Only 32,500 and I purchased it in June of last year. Anyway I've taken it from coast to coast twice and she has never left me stranded. When I transfered from Miramar CA to Cherry Pt. I grossed over 20k and the truck never missed a beat.

Then I guess you happened on a good one. Like every manufacturer usually has a few lemons, the 6.0 has a few that work like their supposed to. What I think is funny is some of the 7.3 guys bash the 6.0 as much as Cummins drivers do.

I too was looking at this truck yesterday in the mag. I think it's absolutely hilarious that, in one picture, they show the truck in the shop with a tech leaning over the hood with a trouble light in his hand.LOL Their editor should be fired for that piece of poor judgment. I liked the twin turbo idea though, until I read one is a VG. To me that seems to defeat the purpose of using twins. That's just alot to go wrong. And you know it will. Of course they need crazy spoolup speed, though, since the new trucks can't smoke at all for emissions. They should just put a DT466 in it and call it a day. But that probably wouldn't meet the emissions for this class of truck. But that's another thread. Sorry, I'm rambling.
