Family member faces deportation
Family member faces deportation
Here's a hot one . my grandaughter married a man 3 years ago she went to school with since kindergarden. he moved here from Germany when he was four years old.
He has been in the Air Force for 3 years (with a stint in Iraq under his belt)and was recentley approached by his First Sgt asking if he was an American citizen.
To cut thru all the red tape, apparently when they moved here (with both parents) they failed to register the kids or ? so it seems he is not a citizen.
They are now saying he may well be exported back to germany and discharged from the Air Force.
It is serius enough he has looked into air fare to return to the states. only now to find that prior to coming back he must validate a german citizenship to be eligable to return.
How many illegal alliens do we have here that have not served in the military that we are trying to give amnesty too

Hey, Herb... That is a killer of a thing to happen. I agree, it is BS. If he served in the AF for 3 years, he should be good. I hope that everything works out ok. If not, you can send him down here, there are thousands of illeagles here, and no one seems to care.
It looks as tho he is going to be deported. spoke to my son this AM and he is planning a trip to Dover to bring my grandaughter and my great grandaughter back to Michigan.
Apparently this recently happened to a lady soldier there also who had done a tour in Iraq, she was deported back to France.
Strange but from what i understand both of these guys had been offered a transfer to the Army a few months back. Probably just a coincidence.

Like mentioned earlier, I though because he married a citizen, he qualified for citizenship? I've seen guys in the Army granted citizenship while in service, but I believe they were from US terretories. Phillipines, Puerto-rico, etc.
Not sure how it will wash out yet. Before he can obtain a "green" card he has to get a legal papertrail behind him to enter the country from Germany (as i understand it)

that is wrong. just plain wrong. just like saying " thank you for serving Our country, now leave" burns my hide.
with that kind of treatment, why would he want to go through the process to stay here? I'd take my wife and daughter and stay in germany. grrr

This guy can get a lot of troubles on the German side too- he's not done military service, has no local education, might not even speak the language and has actively fought for a foreign nation in combat.... I would not want to be in his shoes. I don't think that he's even got a bit of the necessary paperwork to prove to the Germans that he'S German...
I can't comment on the situation on the US side, but personally I feel that this is a show of insensitivity and also ingratitude by the bureaucracy...

People who decry the illegal immigrant problem don't consider the other side of the coin. People come here because they are seeking a better life. They do the jobs that citizens won't do for sometimes sub minimum wages. They go and get shot at in Iraq but then Uncle Sam says "Thank you for your service. Now go home."
Just what is so wrong about somebody wanting a job and a better life? They don't take anything away from citizens. They help produce the wealth we all enjoy. They consume goods too and pay for them with their earnings. What's wrong with that?
Sure they may use our medical facilities at government expense but so do I. The solution to that is to tighten up on the freebies. I have no problem with a person having to prove citizenship before being granted medical services or welfare on the government dime. How difficult would that be to do?
My point is these problems aren't insolvable and can be dealt with in a way that doesn't let crops rot in the fields or send Iraq war veterans back to wherever.

I hope your granddaughter's husband can get this straightened out quickly - that's no way to treat a veteran.
