I have a guy "in the United Kingdom" right now who claims he wants to buy a weight machine from me. I had it listed on Ebay for $500. He emailed me and asked what I wanted for it. Knowing it was a scam, I told him $5,000. He said okay...he just needed my address to send the money order to. And oh, by the way, "I'm sending more than you asked for and you can send the extra to me via Western Union to cover the shipping."

Yeah right.

I responded and told him the price had gone up to $12,000 PLUS shipping to the UK...and that he had to pay me through Paypal. He never emailed me back. Wonder why??

Thanks for all the advice guys and gals. I won't contact or respond to this "John Smith" character. Unfortunately, someone else will and will probably get scammed.

I haven't been burned yet, although I know of a few who have been.
While I agree with your cautiousness, today there is no way to know if you are dealing with the true seller. Scammers are stealing the idenities of the good sellers and using their good reputations to hose people. I have turned in over 1,000 scam auctions, some with ratings in the 10,000's trying to sell bogus aviation instruments. I can spot them easy cause their ads have so many errors about aviation stuff. I've only been wrong once.

Just be carefull out there!
