Drove a D-Max
Drove a D-Max
Buddy bought one :'( and I was helping put in brake controller, after we finished I took it for a spin. I am keeping my 02 CTD no matter what. Rode nice but not that good ole Cummins sound, not sure it has as much "git up and go" even tho his is an automatic and mine is stick. Cummins all the way to the end.
HH
Re:Drove a D-Max
I have driven a PSD and DuraMax as well, and will only spend my money on a Cummins. I agree with you on this one. My youngest son has a PSD, and after I let him test drive my CTD, he decided to sell his PSD and buy my Cummins. Hope my new one ships on time!

Sorry to be anti dodge in some ways the chevy is better and don't freak out I have towed a ton and my father has after owning cummins dodge 3500's for the past 6 years he switched to the 2001 3500 duramax chevy and I have to totally agree that the chevy does drive and steer way better then my 2002 dodge 3500 does and if I towed a trailer as much as he does that I would have a chevy as well. Just my 2 cents I love my dodge and I would not trade it but if you tow with a chevy there is no doubt it pulls better. Keep in mind mine would walk his with HP this is not the comparison it was the driveability while towing that inpressed me.

Re:Drove a D-Max
Jamie,
No offence intended, and none taken. Everyone has their own preferences, and that is what keeps competition in the industry producing such great vehicles! I found the Dodge seats more comfortable on my lower back than the others have been that I've owned in the past - that is only my own personal experience when taking 4 - 6 hour trips (my back doesn't hurt when I get out of the cab). As to HP, I don't get too impressed with HP when towing, as it is torque that does the towing. A friend of mine years ago argued about HP, and I finally had to show him why a 400 HP Cat would out-tow a 400HP Corvette engine any day! The Corvette engin was only pumping out about 350 lb/ft of torque while the 400HP Cat was whopping out about 2100 lb/ft.

That is true towing with a gasser really sucks I towed a 24' pace 15 hours to LonLac Ontario this fall in an 03 chevy avalanche that wouldn't run over 120 Km/h with it on there with 4 ATV's inside what a dog!

Jamie,

I would agree that the Chev 2WD drove "better" (if smoothness and ride are the criteria) than my old Dodge. That is completely negated in the 2003. There is no comparison in the drive and handling of my 2003, and it is superior to the Chev. I have driven three D/A units in anticipation of buying one for the tow rating. I did find them to be somewhat lazy. I really had to lay on the metal to get them to move.

I ended up buying the "pig in the poke" 2003 Dodge for the Cummins and the tow rating. I liked the looks better also based on the 2002 1500. What I got is a truck that handles far better than the Chevs I drove, and one that jumps when you touch the pedal. The interior is as nice or better, however I would have liked captains seats (although mine are very comfortable). Now, that is JMHO.

DodgeAllTheWayBob

A new Duramax is great so long as you have a good helmet to protect you from the engine parts flying off. Or carry a spare head when the alluminum piece of crap warps beyond recognition. [undecided]

In all fairness, I test drove a D-max/Allison last spring. Beautiful truck, handled well, rode like a champ. QUIET

Atleast those were my impressions until I drove an 03 CTD last week. 8)

No comparison.

(just my oppinion guys)

I just know too many people who had bad luck with the D-max and Allison.
