Dodge Caliber with diesel engine

Was just reading about the introduction of the Dodge Caliber in South Africa. One of the engine options is a 2 litre quad valve CRD turbocharged diesel engine. What really surprised me is that the engine is made by VW. Dodge explains that it has a number of co-operative alliances around the world, including one with South Korea's Hyundai. Wonder what that will produce?
Anybody any idea when or even if the Caliber will have a diesel engine option in the US soon?

Ahh, but yes there is!!!! DC and VW have been working on the new Diesel that will be ran in the Caliber and the Jetta. It will be a new Common Rail, 25,000 psi injection pressured 4cyld. I remember that the release date would be something like the 08 year Models. That means that next August you can get one. When the Caliber first came out you could actually go on Dodge.com and build and price the Caliber with this diesel, and a 6spd manual BASE Model!!!! I priced one at 21,000 with the Base package. A little steep for such a small bare car. I will go with the Jetta at that price. The interiors are awesome in the Jetta compared to the Caliber!

My daughter wants a Caliber for her first car. Hopefully when she starts driving (3 more years) there will be a diesel option.

The Jeep Liberty diesel option was discontinued for '07 due to emissions problems . New requirements require particulate filters that would make diesels too pricey for smaller vehicles . Watch for the price on the Grand Cherokee diesel .
