DEXRON vs DEXRON VI

Ok Gang, Time to work the old Magnum over. Both the dipstick and the owners manual say to use Dexron. It seems to me that the VI modern version is the one I want, and most likely, backwards compatible, but two different counter jocks have told me that it is only GM.

The car is too old for their fancy computers to pull something out of.

Anybody know the correct answer? 1978 Dodge Magnum, 360 engine...

Thanks for helping me out.

Use the dexron III. The IV is supposed to be backwards compatible but I don't see any benefits using a modern fluid designed for fuel economy and electronically controlled transmissions in a 30yr+ old unit.

Used the III. Thanks for the advice. Shifts nice and firm, seems to like it.
