Consoul Outside Air Temp.

Has anyone ever had trouble with the Outside Air Temperature Reading in the consoul? Mine seems to be about 8 - 10 degrees off. Every outside temp. display that I drive by, seems to be 8 - 10 degrees colder than what mine says inside the truck. Is this normal and if not, can they be adjusted? ??? ???

Grampaw

Re:Consoul Outside Air Temp.

Mine has been running 3-4 degrees high since I got it. The sensor on my 96 is on the left front bumper support kinda hanging out in the breeze behind the bumper (it's the only thing I can think of that it could be out there).

Apparently there is no adjustment for it. The compass you can reset but the temp is fixed. I do not know if it is a thermistor the computer reads and interprets or if it is a thermocouple. Maybe someody else can shed some light on the inner workings of the misreading beasts.

Mine reads high, too, but only when I've just started the truck when it's been sitting for a while. Start driving, and it seems to get more accurate. Come to think of it, I've only noticed the effect when it's been plugged in, so maybe the block heater throws off enough heat to warm it up a bit?

My temp reads right on, along with the average mpg. HOWEVER, total miles driven is 3.5% low.
It doesn't have to make any sense, as long as the vehicles sell.

Mine is either dead on or 1 degree off.

What's funny is when you put the winter fronts on (I removed mine) and it says 78 degrees outside and it's really only 19. ;D

Re:Consoul Outside Air Temp.

Mine usually reads 50 when I first start it up, regardless of the outside temp.

Last night, it was 35 out, temp started at 50 and started to climb a degree a second until it read 65, hovered there for a minute or so, then dropped down to 40, about a degree a second.

Once I got moving, the readout slowly got to actual temperature, then fluctuated around 1-2 above actual for the 20 minute drive home.
