Outside air temp reading wrong

Just last week, I noticed my outside air temp gauge reading 99-102 degrees and it's freezing here. I know it's not a big deal, but I work out of town sometimes and I like to check the temp when I'm going over the mountains. The day it broke , it started slowly climbing until it topped out in the low 100's and now only moves 1 or 2 degrees from there. I unplugged the sensor wire and the console read something like " SC-0" or something, I plugged it back in and back to 100 . Could it be just the plastic sensor? Or what ya think?

I think it's life has come to an end. My 95 did the same thing and then the display came up with non English characters and I have finally turned it off. I do miss the compass, but not the temp.

On mine, the connector had corrosion behind the pins at the plug, the pin to wire area was about rotted thru. I ended up with a new plug at the junkyard, many Chryslers use the same one, I think I got mine off of an 01 Interpid or something like that. Replaced it, works kine now, didn't even have to replace the sensor.

Sensor is cheap if you need one though, was something like 15 bucks new on Rock.

Mine will occasionally read about 10 degrees off, usually on the high side.

Cleaned it and put some dielectric grease on the plug and it seems to be good since....

Whoa, does Rock Auto deliver up there? If not, they used the same sensor in a myriad of Chrysler products, I think it was a late 90's Intrepid that I stripped my connector and sensor from.

Rock auto delivers , but the shipping is still like $15 . I saw on ebay , there are many similar for other dodge cars/trucks for $13 with free shipping. Some look identical, but it says they aren't compatible. Anyone know of other years of cars or trucks that will work?

Mine has a similar problem, occasionally rising far above actual temps.

Anyone know where that plug is on a 2002 6 cyl?

Don't know how this will display, but Rock Auto has the cross reference, this one gets used on a ton of different vehicle and years.

Should be in the same location as the earlier ones, right at bumper ht, front drivers side, on core support, the wiring goes down to frame rail.

You about have to look up under the fender in front of the tire to see mine.

My 01.5 has it mounted behind the top of the grill about dead center. It is the only thing with a wire attached there....look for it with the hood open.

That temp sensor isn't just to let you know if you need a coat. The same sensor sets up the fueling, the preheater and the trans shifting (on an A/T).
Your performance and economy go way down when the temp sensor is bad.

Sure about that? I am almost 100 percent certain the engine air temp sensor is the one they use for that, ( IAT sensor )
