Ok so my virus program ran out. I've tried all the big guys before(norton, macafee etc) and have been trying some of the smaller companies the last two years.

So in all your wonderful opinions what is a good virus program to run. What do you all suggest. Pros and cons would be nice to add also.

Anyone try Spyware doctor?

 

nortom and mcafee are garbage donwn load avast, the home version is free.

The thing here to look at, is no matter who says they like one over the other, this is a purely statistical standpoint.
Norton overall 97.7% effective, mcafee 94.9% effective, avast 97.6% effective.

Any name brand antivirus is going to do the job *provided* you dont intentionally ask for the trouble. Then at that point, NONE will do the job. IE Do not use myspace, do not look at free adult content, do not download music with peer to peer apps, etc.

The whole which A/V is better debate goes on for years but its really which USER is safer.

But really i tried both of the two mentioned above, didn't really care for them much, just didn't feel right to me, that's why i would like to expand my brain power and see what else is out there.

 

i switched to avg and have had no complaints for the last year or so.

 

i have avg anti virus also with spybot search and destroy

 

Go to www.grisoft.com and download the free version of AVG. Be sure to remove all other antivirus apps first. I ran the free version for about a month and then bought a 2 year license. Its cheap, maybe $25/year. Trouble free operations for almost 2 years. I'm just about to reup. Man what a feeling of joy when it flags and kills a Trojan virus.

I love macafee. I have been using it for 3 years now. Norton's sucks.

 

Each had good and bad points. Things like taking a lot of memory to run. Very hard to get rid of - although Norton for one has a removal tool available to get it all out. Conflicts with other programs. Etc.

If you have found one that you like, stay with it. I have used Norton for years and have never gotten infected - the real purpose of AV software.
