Computer Virus??

I keep getting all these pop ups from "Outer Info, Find your classmate, ecards, fubar, ebay, ect, ect, ect." Some of them make my computer have to log off of the internet. Its getting pretty frustrating having to keep closing out of 3pop ups in a minute. Any Ideas on what to try. My old anti virus isn't working "or i dont know how to use it correctl".

Any free anti viruses I can download and use easy. Im not the most computer savy person there is out there.
Thanks for any help

AVG Anti Virus from Grisoft is a pretty good FREE one. Here is the link:

PS: It's not a good idea to run more than one anti-virus at a time, so I would delete the old one!!

FREE online scanners if you don't want to install anything.

Sounds more like adware, or spyware than a virus.

Google, adaware, spybot search and destroy, and ccleaner (crap cleaner). Sorry, don't have time to post exact URLs, but be careful to download the real deals, not pay to play stuff that will pop up in the Google results.

I agree with TreeFarm. I use AVG Anti Virus and Ad Aware SE for spyware. Both are free and work well. The link below is where I got the Ad Aware SE.

AVG, ADAWARE from lavasoft, Micosoft defender. All free, and loaded on my laptop by the Computer repair co that cleaned up my hard drive. I later added spybot. All work well together, but it does slow it down.
Read how to use it and what the messages mean.
Also you can use AOL. It does a lot of clean up if you set the options.

edit add on. I also keep the cache and cookies cleaned out. Go to control panel, internet options, delete cookies, temporary internet files, and history.
From my computer I right click on "C" drive, properties, disk clean up. and run that about once a week, and defrag. I got a small hard drive, so gotta keep it clean.
About once a week a do a hard disk scan.
Tools, scan disk, with the fix option. It shuts down the computer, brings it back up and runs the scan.
It makes for a faster running computer.
