Computer died, help please.

The motherboard on my computer has somehow manged to cook itself, so desperately need a replacement. It is a Gigabyte Socket A GA-7VTXE+/GA-7VTXH+. I am aware that this model is obsolete. Heck, anything computer related is obsolete a week after you get it home.
Can anyone tell me if I need a direct replacement or is there a better substitute? I also need to know where to buy this either via the internet or by phone. I can pay for it with my Visa credit card and have it shipped to a Texas address.
Have tried to obtain one locally, but so far can't find one so am now looking to buy this in the states.
Can any of you computer guru's help with this?
While I am at it, this board has a 512 RAM. Any advantage to doubling this? Should I buy the RAM at the same time? if so, any advice on this?
Thanks.

not great for old stuff, but you might find a board that will work with your processor and accessories

I checked amazon and they have a compatable motherboard for $13. Gigabyte Socket A GA-7VRX Motherboard. Looks like a little better chipset. Of course you will still have to do a processor transplant, can be a pain with certain sockets.

You can up the ram, you can add another stick or upgrade to another stick(bigger). If you add another stick i wouldnt get bigger than a 512 for two reasons. keep in mind it is probably not going to help all that much.

I have a bunch of pentium III boards with processors laying around, all ready to go i could probably hook you up with if you wanted to go that route.

Dug up my ooooolllllddd semi retired Pentium 3 with a screaming 130 kb of Ram. After I hit 'enter' I go for a cup of coffee.

Mysterync, If a motherboard will cost me less than $50, OK let's be generous and say $100, why would it be better to get a whole new system?

Thanks to the rest of you for the suggestions. Working on it, but it is now going to have to wait until Monday.

Uhmmm,

Most newer programs on the market are requiring at least a 2 gig processor and 512 mb ram if not more.

Fully loaded Windows XP runs almost 5 gig of disk space alone so hard drives are getting big also 40 gig minimum that is worth using.

A complete new system is actually pretty cheap when you figure what you have to buy total to make one. Dell has them for $399.00!

Take a look at Pricewatch.com or Outpost.com if you want parts or cheaper complete systems.

For more, in depth assistance, you might consider posting over at PC Perspective.com. It's pretty much a computer geek forum, but it's like here, full of nice knowledgeable people. I was a moderator there for almost five years and can vouch for them. Good folks.
