Chevy gasser - maybe he wasn't trying
Chevy gasser - maybe he wasn't trying
On the way home this afternoon, running the left lane of the Raleigh Inner Loop at 70+ mph (60 mph posted limit), I had a previous generation Chevy gasser P/U come screaming up behind me and then proceed to ride my bumper. I was cruising by the traffic in the middle lane at a fairly good clip when this guy happened along and I obviously wasn't going fast enough for his liking. I glanced back and noticed that he was talking on a cell phone, to boot.

Not wanting to hold up this obviously self-important person, and needing to get over to the right for my exit anyway, I kinda hammered it to get around the slower people in the lanes to my right. As luck would have it we were moving past the front of the crowd so the road opened up ahead of us.

If he was trying to catch me he must not have been trying too hard because I walked away from him until I backed off when she started defueling at 2700-2800 rpm (stock plate, no GSK). He came by me as I slowed down and moved over two lanes and, as he went by, he moved over into the lane next to me and flipped me off :

I just
at him - he apparently didn't like the fact that a Dodge diesel had just walked away from him - and handily at that. If I wasn't stock I could understand it but with the exception of a 4" exhaust and no cat my truck is like she came out of the factory in 96. Of course, at 2k rpm she does kinda get up and go - if only for a short while.

I really need a plate and GSK so she at least has something to back up the threat behind the gauges on the pillar. Having ridden in RamminOn's truck before the latest round of improvements to it made me a believer in what these trucks are capable of.

With a history of having driven big block Oldsmobiles I know my truck is never going to be that
but I know some of the people on this board are beyond

Anybody else have any good door blowin' stories?
Re:Chevy gasser - maybe he wasn't trying
big block oldsmobiles huh .....my brother had 71 ( i think ) cutlass.started out with a rocket 350 and ended up with a 455 wow what a motor...my cuz currently has a 66, started out with a 333 ( ?? ) and now has a pumped up 455, glass front end, trunk lid, this thing absolutely flies, fastest thing i ever was in that is road legal. man big blocks are fun ...later, scott

[move]still love my CTD though[/move]
Re:Chevy gasser - maybe he wasn't trying
I have a 198? sleekcraft with a Olds 455 bored .040 with new cam, crank, pistons, 850cfm carb. I can either run baffles or reversed headers. Its a head turner and jaw dropper when we fire it up. espically with the cam. ;D those motors are strong as heck.

Re:Chevy gasser - maybe he wasn't trying
Big block Olds motors are like our CTDs - not alot of revs but killer torque.

We once bought a motor out of a jet boat - drank too much gas for the owner's liking. We put it in my brother's 71 442 and got it running right. Talk about a rocket sled on rails. Turns out it was a 1973 "marine export" motor, which was a non-smog W-30 leftover they couldn't sell for street use. Ended up burning a piston because we couldn't get enough fuel to her fast enough even with a massively re-jetted Quadrajet.

Of course, my little brother's Mondello-ized 455 in his 70 Cutlass is another story......
