CB problems..
I have a CB and magnetic mount antenna on my truck(see sig). I can get good stations and talk back and forth if I am just sitting there with the truck off,but once I start the truck it all turns to static. The wirings is most of the problem maybe. The CB is a Maxxon MCB-30,I plan on buying a Cobra Classic in a few months or so.
Can anyone help with this? It kinda sucks when out riding the trails and I can talk back and forth with the other trucks on the trail.

maybe getting some type of in line noise filter would help? Several people around here had a similar problem and they got a noise filter from advanced auto think for like $11 and it fixed it. Just my .02 cents
How do you have your cb wired up? Are tapped into a fuse and then just attached to a ground, or are you running the power wire straight off the battery? Also, where do you have your antenna cable running, is it just through a window or do you have it running through the engine bay? Is your excess antenna wire rolled up or do you have it wound up in a figure 8 style? Go to firestiks website, they have a FAQ section that has lots of good info and trouble shooting sources on there. I just installed a Cobra classic and two firestik Antennas in my truck over the weekend, it works great. If you are looking for a place to buy some cb equipment, check out the Pilot Truck Stop just off 95, the Fairfield exit, first exit north of Waterville. I bought a Cobra LTD 29 classic off them on sale for $79.00. They also have a slew of firestik antennas along with a bunch of other brands, it is the best selection i have seen in the state at very good prices, way better then Radio shack or Napa ect.
Disconnect the antenna to see if it makes any difference in the static. If it does then you can use the antenna as a probe to find out where the noise is coming from.If it does not then the noise is entering via the power leads or poor grounding.A power line filter will help there. Some CB's have switchable filters on them to help with EMI but correcting the source is best if it can be done within reason.Do not key up your transmitter with the antenna lead disconnected.Ron G
I decided to pull the radio out to see where he had the wires run(the guy I bought the truck from). I found out he has both 12+(constant & keyed) running to the cig. lighter power and it is grounded to the firewall. I know I will need to fix that and it will probaly help some. The antenna is running under my seat and out a hole in the rear of the cab up to the roof.
I am planning on getting two Firestik to mount on the bed when I get my new Cb.

Wow I totally forgot about this post. If I have the truck off and have a good recepetion and then start the truck it goes to static, but if I un-hook my antenna the static goes away. So I am guessing it has to do with the way they atenna is ran?
Thanks

Thanks

Keep the braided shield close to the ends of the inside core for best shielding and ground each end.
If it is a hissing static then you might be getting data interference from an onboard computer that is leaking back into the power line or radiating into the air.
If it is a whining sound that varies with the RPM’s it is your alternator.

If your antenna is wired and mounted fairly securely, meaning that you cannot move it easily then take a piece of scrap RG58 with a male connector on it so that you can connect to the radio at the antenna connector and the other free end can be used as a probe to locate the source of your interference.
Peel back the braid a little to expose the center conductor to make it more sensitive if you wish. You really can use most any piece of wire but a shielded wire will be more directional. You can tell by the volume of the radio that you will be using for a detector when you have identified the source of your noise.
The fix will depend on what it is.Do NOT key up your transmitter while you have the antenna disconnected!!Ron G
