'03 Chevy truck fires??

Folks,

A co-worker was driving his '03 Chevy 1500 4wd, 5.3 V-8, automatic truck to work last Tuesday, and all the sudden he started smelling smoke. He pulled over and the truck was already engulfed in flames - he barely got his seatbelt off and got out without being burned. He was very fortunate, and suffered no injury except for being a bit in shock.

He purcahsed the truck new. His insurance company is wrestling with him as to how much they will pay (what's new - eh? ) and he's hoping that all will work out okay from this. The big ??? is how or why did this happen? There's a known cruise-control switch related fire issue with Ford products, but how about these Chevy's? Anyone else here of this at all? The police are investigating the truck for possible causes, however it fully burned to the ground so clues are hard to find. Any possible insight could really help. Prayers for Dave (the owner) would also really be appreciated. Thanks...
