That is the M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) Made by FN (Fabrique Nationale). It is the light machine gun that the US, Canadians, and most Coalition Forces use.
It is a belt fed, gas operated, air cooled, fully automatic machine gun, that fires from the open bolt position.
It fires the 5.56 mm (.223) disintegrating link ammunition. It fires 850 rounds per minute and weighs 17 pounds. The drum you see holds 200 rounds.
It breaks down into 5 main groups- receiver group, barrel group, operating group, trigger housing group, and buttstock group.
Maximum range is 3600 meters with a maximum effective range of 1100 meters.
There is a newer model out with a collapsible buttstock and shorter barrel suited better for vehicle use.
Is that enough info for you?

I love my older Colts but I think that in recent years the quality of their civilian grade AR type rifles has slipped. Their law enforcement AR15s are still top notch, though, and I would definitely purchase one of them.
For a good, cost effective entry level AR15 I would probably recommend checking out Bushmaster, Armalite, and Rock River Arms. But every brand is going to have it's pros and cons.

Bushmaster all the way for me. Never had a hang up or anything else with the few I have. Wouldn't even look at a Colt if it were me.
Theres a ton of people making AR's anymore and just about all of them are pretty good from what Ive been seeing. Go for what you like and what suits you best. And as always, you get what you pay for.

Finally something I know about.
For quality and price I'd go with Rock River. Olympic Arms, DPMS and Bushmaster are great picks too. Really when it comes to those four it is all about what price you can get them for. With Rock River you can usually getting a deal saving some money for rails and optics.

Yes.
However, we do not have any right now where I am at.
There is a pic of me shooting one in my gallery. It is pending approval. I uploaded it just for you!

6 of one half a dozen of another.
A good set of internals is one of the most important parts.
Stay away from heese. Any of the big 3 is a good choice. Armalite Bushmaster or Colt. Rock river is as good as any of the big three.
I use a Bushy lower for a host for my RDIAS. It has well over 30000 rounds of F/A in everything from 22lr, 223, 9mm, 7.62x39, 45ACP, and 300whisper.
I do not buy Colt products since they are such hard noses to deal with if you are a civilian.
