i have been following this thread from the beginning. i like them all. some are better than others, but try a steyer-aug if one gets a chance. it seems to be the most accurate one i have shot. ps it is rather expensive.

I've been on the sidelines....wanting a GOOD AR-15.
There's a spare spot in the Gun Vault reserved for one of those "Evil Black Rifles"
With the possible 2nd comming of the AWB (now almost through the House Committe and heading for the Senate), I'm on the prowl.

What's a good over the counter setup, or is it better to try to assemble pieces/parts?
I'm looking to purchase in-state and FTF to stay "Under the radar" so to speak.
Just wondering what to look for.....and what to avoid.

THIS IS NOT INTENDED AS A POST WHAT YOU HAVE FOR SALE IN THIS THREAD POST. However......PM's are accepted.

Pick up a couple RRA stripped lowers, and lower parts kits, then you can shop around for uppers and stock sets when money and time permits.
You'll save some money and end up with the rifle you want.

Phoenix has great gun shows. If you find one you like, ask them if they are a dealer. There is nothing wrong with you wanting to buy one from a private seller. There will be plenty there. It's not too hard to see how a rifle was treated.
Even if it was shot heavily, a barrel can be replaced for a few hundred dollars.
If you can, I suggest getting a used lower (probably around 250.00), but a new one is just as much. Then you can get the upper (barrell, accessories) you want by buying a new one.
I have been to a bunch of gun shows here, they take forever to get through there so big. Next one is in April and I will try to make it. I will be on the look out for something good. Problem is I am still not a 100% sure about what is a good deal and what is not. At a gun show I was always under the impression that they were all dealers, I guess I will start asking.

Thanks Marine

You will find alot are not dealers. I suggest going Friday night (or when they first open the doors) to find the best stuff. Most of those guys are straight shooters. You can tell if they are beat up or not. As for goodies....get a stock one, and put your own upgrades in the lower.

ar's

I have a bushmaster. I have friends with pretty much every ar make known to man. I dont really see any being superior to the other. Mine has a 16 inch barrel with full length sights and handguards. It is very accurate and very reliable. Here is a pic.

I try to kill a deer with all of my guns , even my pistols, I killed one of my best bucks ever with my little ar15, one shot to the neck and stone cold dead. This is a nice buck for a florida deer, here is a pic of the deer.

Most everyone is out of stock on these darn things, at least stripped lowers. I found some Double Star's in stock, I will probably just pick up a couple of those to build later on. Darn 1022.
