Question Butane Refilling ???

I bought one of those pencil torches at Harbor Freight; 99-cents well-invested, and I should have got one years ago.

What is the proper method for refilling butane reservoirs ??

Should the can of butane be held tip up, or tip down ??

Thank you.

On my butane soldering iron, the fill port is on the end. I have to hold the butane can inverted (upside down), and the fill port facing up. I then engage the nozzle of the butane can and push down to start the flow. It's at capacity when it starts to spit and bubble back out.

Really what you are doing is transferring liquid butane from one tank to another. That is why the can must be inverted.

Hope this helps.

So it's LIQUID and the can needs be upside down.

Thanks; that's a lot more than I knew before.

Butane is the same thing as propane except the boiling point is much higher. It's petroleum gas kept liquid under pressure.
