Refilling NV5600

Is there an easier way to fill this up? What I wound up doing is undoing the plastic shroud surrounding the shift ****. I had one of those funnels with the long snake like tube.

Good thing this isn't one of those regular maintenance items.

Easiest way is to pull the console and pop the shift tower off and pour away.

Takes a few extra minutes but there is no mess.

Yes, definitely an extra quart for sure. I run a full 6 quarts in mine and the only way to get it all in is thru the shift tower.

I assume that putting in that extra quart won't harm anything.

If you're running a 4x4, 6 quarts or more in the NV5600 may cause a blow-through at the rear seal at the transfer case join. I've seen it happen, and the dealer in my area has seen it, too.

I've got a Fast Cooler on one side, and an Eaton tranny filter on the other side of my 5600 - both mounted where the PTO plates were. Between the two, that's an extra quart capacity - for 6 total. Perhaps that's the "safe" way of stuffing a bit more fluid in there. Cools a bit better and cleans a bit, too.

Not true. You can fill the tranny with 5 quarts through the fill hole, plug it, and fill the remaining quart through the top bolt of the PTO cover.

I've run a full 6 quarts for over 5 years and 110,000 miles and have had zero leaks or "blow throughs" That's the first I have heard of that and I know a ton of people running the same amount of oil.

I'm sorry but you won't get 6 quarts in using the top PTO cover bolt, believe me I've tried all kinds of angles and tilts to do it threw the cover bolt and you can short of laying the truck over on a 45 degree angle.

well judging from your avatar thats not a problem for you... sorry couldn't help it

i don't really see the "blow out" happening cause the frist time i filled my 5600 i put 7 quarts in and it just blew that extra quart out the vent... all over the truck

6 is fine and it seems to shift better.

Running 6 through the top cover for a year now. No leaks. Seemed to shift better and apparently helps lube the rear most bearing in these trans'.
