Bummed- my Jetta got wrecked

Earlier today, I was less than a mile from home and a lady pulled out of a parking lot on the opposite side of the road and heading in the other direction. She swung out of the lot pretty wide, crossed the center line and tagged me. I was doing about 15 or 20 MPH. My 5-yr-old son was in the back in his carseat with a 4-point harness and seems to be ok but said his arm hurt when he got up from his nap. I'm sore and can't turn my head to the right or lay flat on my back.

My Jetta is jammed from nearly the center of the grill to the driver's side front wheel arch. I was able to drive it home but it's got a pretty good shimmy and it puked about a half-gallon of antifreeze out of the side of the radiator. Looks like a sprung seam or cracked end tank.

The lady and her 9-yr-old are ok, too. She called to thank me for "being so cool about it and not angry". God gave me a face that looks like I took a bite of cat-turd icecream even when I'm happy, so I guess she was expecting a different reaction. Just for the record, I'm not upset with her; she was simply looking to her left for traffic in her lane. Irony, as delivered by a Mazda.

Thanks for letting me vent

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Glad everyone is OK though!
I would be bummed if I lost either my truck or my Jetta. Love them both!!!

Glad to hear everyone is essentially OK!

Get yourself to a chiropractor; it will take a few days and a few visits, but they'll take care of your neck.

Get your son to your doctor in the morning. Get checked out!

X2 Get checked out!!

With all due respect to her - you did call the police and have a formal report done, right?

Glad everyone is mostly okay. Please - (for all about to be in this lady's place) slow down and don't get in such a rush. One moment of inattention caused big problems for all involved.

Hey Stink, Glad you and you boy are ok. This would not be appropriate otherwise.

Figured a picture was worth a thousand words. Or cat turds, however you want to look at it...

Nah, that guy isn't even as ugly as my shadow. I've been likened to the result of a cross-breeding experiment between Shrek and Ms. Sasquatch, with none of the charm or good nature of either.

The lady turned in the claim to her insurance company and told the entire truth; said she was looking to her right for oncoming traffic and didn't realize she came across the center line. BAM! Her claims rep set me up in a 2010 Jetta (I'm getting spoiled) and they are tearing down the car for assessment. The bodyshop rep said it looks like a constructive total loss- too expensive to fix, given the value of the car. They may make an offer today. I may ask to retain the salvage for parting out purposes. I always though a Porsche 914 with a TDI engine would make the most out of a gallon of D2.

My son is OK, no more complaints about his arm. Gotta give God the glory for that! I'm still sore and haven't had a good night's sleep, though. Doctor did x-rays and such and said it's strains and muscle tears but I'll get better. Gave me a prescription for Flexoril; I take one before bed but not during the day because they make me loopy. No one wants a big, goofy, shaved-head Shreksquatch lurching around the office all day.

Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. Your concern for me and my son is truly appreciated.

Thanks for the update - will be praying for you and the son.

The 914 project sounds fun - hope that could happen.

Well it's good to hear she didn't smack the humor out of you!!!

Seriously though, glad to things seem to be working out, and everyone is healthy.
