Bought a powerstroke

OK, i'm gonna confess now. Bought a 97 F450 C&C psd 5sp.
I got a good deal on it, and needed another truck anyways.
Put a 10 ft dump on it.
So here's where it gets interesting.
truck runs ok, first time it leaves the shop, it dies. Trace it to the fuel heater circuit. after a couple of 30 amp maxi fuses find that the heater has separated from the base, dead short. replace heater.Truck won't start when cold.
test all the glow plugs, out of 8, 2 are good. replace all 8.
Put new glow plug relay in. find out that the glow plugs don't cycle, they just stay on. Seeing they are controlled by the pcm, might need one of them too!
Every time I work on this truck, I say to myself, glad I can jump in a cummins and I know its gonna get me home

I have a 82 GMC 6.2l Diesel pickup, been a good truck, use it for odd jobs and hunting. The glow-plug controller went out a couple of years ago, I just removed the controller and wired it hot tru a a push-button for 12v juice to the glow-plugs, works great! The glow-plug controllers on the older 6.2-6,5l diesel trucks were allways problematic.
