Auto Insurance Options

I posted this on another board and haven't gotten any ideas, so I though I would try here.

I have my '06 CTD that I drive daily for work, and put on 25-30K miles a year. I also have a '79 F-150 and a '79 Bronco that I put around 500 miles a year on each.

The problem is that insurance rates keep going up, and now it is costing me over $800 a year to insure the two older trucks that I only drive once in a while. The best my insurance company has to offer is the low mileage discount plans (<7500 mi. per year) that I currently have. Their only other option is to have me suspend coverage when I am not driving them, and call them everytime I want to drive one of them, which is usually on weekends. What a pain. This is almost exactly the same as the last insurance company I was with.

I don't mind paying for the Dodge, as I drive a lot of miles and obviously much greater chance of getting into an accident.

So are any of you in a similar situation with "hobby" vehicles, and have you found a decent alternative? Like some sort of blanket policy or extreme low mileage policy? I should also add that I only need liability coverage.

found out a while back from several news stories and my insurance agent that the guy that started and owns progressive insurance gives big $$$ to very far left political groups that are pro big tax increases (including fed income and fed fuel taxes) and pro emmisions regulations that threaten the diesel industry. my agent told me that lots of former progressive customers, who also are car and truck enthusiasts, have come to her to find a new insurance company.

I switched from Progressive because they got nuts on the rates after a couple of years.

They lure you in with low rates then many won't switch when the pot starts getting warm........

I third or fourth the classic vehicle insurance deal, I only pay 100 bucks a year for full coverage ( though not enough for replacement ) for my Nova.

I think mine is with Great American Insurance, a spinoff from Prudential.

The classic insurance is also a good tip. I will check into that as well.

I need to get something figured out in the next month or so if I can.

I am with you anti Progressive guys. I would not give them a penny, even if they had the lowest rates. The owner/founder is anti-US and uses profits to fund and support causes that are directly against US interests.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I just filed an applicaton with a classic insurance co. Their online quote was $125 total for BOTH trucks annually. In addition to liability, it also includes comprehensive & collision. 1000 mile annual limit for each truck which should be plenty. But they also offer 3000 and 5000 mile plans if I need to increase it for any reason.

I am stoked. I wish I would have figured this out a long time ago.
