The August Masks Up virtual breakroom

Masks up!. Wash your hands and keep your social (or antisocial) distance. The breakroom is now fully virtual for everyone's safety.
53° and rain, not expected to get much warmer. Rain in the forecast for the next week.
Finished shoring up the green thing (FRP Conex). The walls were bowed out and the roof sagging. I'm thinking I will also need to get underneath it and put a support across the middle. Right now it is only held up by the ends. Last winter the snow load was so heavy you couldn't open the doors. Still needs work, but this should keep it from folding in on its self.
Now on my 4th month of unemployment. With reinstated restrictions my hope for a job is out the window. Looks like I am going to be forced into an early retirement with reduced benefits.
On the bright side, I got a letter from an insurance company saying my adopted A hole brother died and I am entitled to his life insurance payout. I don't think it's worth much, but every little bit helps right now. I with I had known sooner. He died in 97 2 days before his 44th birthday. I feel kind of silly hating a dead man for all those years. At least now the healing process can start.

Still raining. Couldn't do any outside work. So after an exhausting look for non existent jobs, I settled into my easy chair with my favorite cat and took a nap.

Sorry to hear about the rough job market for you cougar.

The change of seasons is evident in VT. The angle of the sun is lower in the sky...Has me thinking about fire wood. Almost time to call up my firewood "guy" and have him start dropping off wood.
Went through less than 10 cords of hardwood last year but it was not the coldest of winters either.. Getting all that dialed in and stacked should keep me from being bored for a bit.

Plans for high school this fall during these times sounds like a carp show. 2 days in school, then 3 days at home "virtual" learning. I hope it is more popular than this virtual place, that has been pretty quiet...Maybe my daughter and I can finish up "Project Covid" our '93 12V 2wd to 4x4, auto to manual build we started last winter/ spring.
At least I can offer her some hands on learning.

Good idea. All kids should have at least basic mechanical skills.
The seasonal change is showing its self here as well. It's getting dark at night and into the morning. Having to use a flashing for my midnight bathroom runs to keep from stepping on the cat.
Going to be another one of those, can you guess the weather days. Yesterday I put handles on the kitchen drawers. Morris supervised. I still have the cabinets to do.

If it isn't one thing, it's another. Went to take some money out of my 401K and got, Sorry, the information you provided doesn't match our records. So I checked my Roth IRA, same thing. Wasted the day going back and forth with them trying to figure it out. My SSN and DOB have been changed. If they can't or won't figure out how my information got changed, then I just lost my retirement. The man I talked to said that information can only be changed internally unless someone hacked the system.

Wow that is some real BS right there, cougar.

Rainy today, looks like a good day to work in the shop on my clutch and NV-4500 transmission swap on my '98.0. Charlotte has some tee shirts she wants to print up with some artwork she made, so we will both have an activity to do where it is dry and we can spend some time together.
Maybe my neighbor and friend, Walter will come over and finish up installing the heads on his 360 V-8 on his '85 Ramcharger from Idaho.

Yesterday Char. and I got out in the afternoon to go fishing. Ended up just being a nice picnic snack by the pond and some "lure washing" as neither of us caught a thing. Too bad as the last trip out there we caught a half dozen rainbow trout a piece, half of which we kept for a good dinner.

Sounds like it happened when they set up my IRA that I rolled my old employers 401K into. I'm waiting to hear back from them.

Wasn't sure if it was going to rain or not, so I broke out the chain saw and continued on my log pile. Got 1 cut up before it started raining, now I need to haul it down to the pile. Before I can continue though, I need to find another chain for it. Soggy cottonwood in hard on them. Pretty wet form last night's rain. I'll probably go pick up another chain if I can find one and some more cabinet handles and carry one inside.

48°, a little chilly this AM. Morris is curled up under the blankets on my bed. I need to get him a new heat pad for his. Wore out the chain on the saw, seems to be an oddball. I hope I can find one cheap. Still no action on my 401K. I hope I don't have to "stimulate" them into action.

Breaking out the heat pad already in the first week of Aug....Not a good sign.

My daughter and I made peach jam the other night out of a case of the super sweet peaches from the Mennonites farm stand. They truck the peaches up from Pa.. We try to make a batch every summer that lasts the year. We got 2 1/4 gallons of jam out of the batch this year.

Yum! That's a lot of peach jam.
Ya gotta remember, this is Alaska. It's always cold somewhere. Temperatures for the next week range from 48° to 58°. On the hottest days it my only reach the low 70°s.

Thunder storms and a lot of rain. Bullwinkle dropped by this morning. Wife said how good he'd look next to the mashed potatoes.

Heard someplace back east they had a little 5.1 earthquake.
48° and still raining. Stuck in the house with a grumpy cat. Got parts coming in the mail, doubt they will get here this week, but I've been surprised before.
Got the utility finders coming out. Just a formality to make everyone happy. Got 2 loads of pit run coming to fill in the hole before the equipment arrives.

Cleared off yesterday as promised, warmed up to 60°. Sat in the sun out in the yard with Morris most of the day until the pit run showed up. Had 3 loads brought in. This time a lot cheaper because he was closer by. $135 a load vs $190 a load last summer. 53° this AM, looking to be another beautiful day. Hope the excavator shows up. If he doesn't, I'll go down to the do-it-yourself rental and do it myself. It may take longer, but I'll get er done. Talked to a lady from Detroit yesterday. She said their company was trying to by some of my late employer's assets and was planning to open a commuter and cargo service in Anchorage and wanted me to apply. After I told her it would be a 2 hour one way commute for me, she was stunned. She didn't realize how remote everything is around here. Most of Anchorage's work force lives at least an hour away due to the cost of housing. My same place in The Municipality of Anchorage would be 3 to 4 times higher than what I paid cash for. I think she might reconsider after I educated her on the cost of operating in Alaska.
