? for anyone in Oregon?

Would like to know if it is true that in the state of Oregon you cannot pump your own fuel and if it is true, why?? A guy mentioned this on another forum and it got me curious and I cannot find anything on the web about it. Thanks Rick Mays

Wow!!!!!! Thanks Phox, I read thru both of the ones you posted and I am speechless. That is about the most stupidist thing I have heard and read in a long time, I am shaking my head. And to think this took place back in 1951 and it is still the law today is mind boggeling to say the least. Thanks again Phox for the info. Goodluck,,Rick

My husband is from Oregon and was telling me about it. I didn't believe him until we went up so I could meet his family.

I live in oregon and you are not supposed to touch the pump for any reason(gas or diesel) or you and the station owner may be fined a crazy amount of $$.

You can't do it in NJ either but, with diesel you can get away with it.

You are right RLV. but to go further, Oregon law states that you can pump diesel into your own rig at any station.I have argued with a few of them that didnt know the law and were scared to let me pump my own fuel. but I won. I pump my own fuel allways because they leave me about 7 gallons shy of a full tank.

I get that ? asked of me by out of staters all the time when I'm delivering at a station. I just tell them that we get less equipment damage that way by people not driving off with the nozzle still in their tank.

It is still astonishing the fact that you cannot. I read with interest all the info on it that I have found and that phox sent me, the diesel is not classified as a Flammable 1 and therefore you are able to pump your own. I have read alot of the states reasons for the law and the only one that makes any sense at all in my opinion is the labor one of having jobs for the youth. But it still amazes me that it is still in effect to this day. I can;t see any pros for it and only cons as the fuel will cost you more to have someone pump it. Anyway thanks for all the info. Goodluck,,Rick
