Anyone like Sushi?
Okay, here is the deal. Today is my 5 year wedding anniversary and I told the bride I would take her somewhere special. We decided on a sushi resturant, but I have no idea what to order.
Any tips?

To me sushi is BAIT.... My tip would be to go to a place that actually COOKS the food
No kidding though I had to eat bugs and snakes and stuff when I was in the jungle,
(note the words "had to" above) If I have an option I prefer my seafood cooked at least to 140 degrees it kills parasites and other stuff that live in fish.
Now I hope I did not ruin your evening, but you did ask
And a Happy anniversary to you and your lovely bride

Best thing to order is California rolls if you've never had Sushi. To be accurate (and I might have it backwards)...the raw fish is actually called Sushimi. Sushi is actually things like California rolls and the like and is also a term often used to describe both. Ca. rolls are like veggies wrapped in seawead and rice and are very good. They're a good way to build up to a raw fish type dish. I spent a few years in Japan and am pretty tired of Sushi. When I do have it...I have the various types of rolls.

When I go with the guys @ work I usually get the teriyaki steak with or tempura shrimp. I like my food cooked.
Tye
P.S. Did you get the stickers?

Mmmmmmmm, sushi (said with a Homer Simpson drool). There is a sushi place in Temecula (right across the street from the DC dealer) that has a awesome selection. They have one called the bomb that is spicy tuna, cream cheese, jalapeno and avacado. rolled and deep fried to get the outside crispy (dang, now I need to go eat sushi). Sushi places have different selections depending on what the chefs come up with. I'm a big fan of Unagi (eel, and it's actually cooked). Ask the server what kind of special sushis they make. Even though like Top said, where I come from we call that bait.
Oh and a happy anniversary

THE bride.....lol.
Shouldn't she be "my" bride?
Anyway back to the still wiggling raw worm and parasite infested fish they slaughter right in front of you. Ask for a nice Gulf grouper fillet slightly blackened with just a hint of heat. That is how fish should be eaten. Or battered with beer batter and deep fried. With many many beer on the lanai.

Back to the sushi bar.......................
Thanks Lary, for the mental picture. After a couple glasses of saki I'll just yell out "BAIT HERE!" and the cook will flip me a raw fish like I'm a performing seal.

A California roll is made with imitation crab meat so its not real or raw.
Sushi is actually the 'rice' used to wrap/roll the fish/shellfish.
Sashimi is raw fish (fileted and no skin), nothing wrapped or rolled on it. This was the truest form, catch a tuna and cut it up in fancy shapes right at the back of the boat. That's the real deal.
If you want to do more than a fake California roll, choose somethig with Tuna, not sashimi but a roll with Tuna. You can eat that and say, that's not so bad.
Ask your server and they will gladly make sure you don't have eel or something like that.
Makizushi is the real name for a roll and then there are different kinds based on its content, California Makizushi being the crab, etc...
Careful with the wasabi. Spent 3 months all over Japan last summer.
