Any DISH Network experts in here?

I have a Dish Network system. Having lots of trouble with it. Continually getting switch errors. Now, the 625 system gets the local channels fine but none of the other channels. I have another system in the basement ( shares the common "dish" ) and it gets the upper channels just fine, but none of the local channels. I have checked all the connections, and pretty much determined that the problem has to be in the dish mounted outside. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This condition is causing great "marital" troubles in my houshold! I'm tighter than bark on a tree and just HATE to pay some joker 29.95, to come say whatever the issue is, it isn't their problem ( all of my equipment is theirs ) and it is gonna cost $XX.XX to repair. The installer couldn't even make the connections on the back of the tv correct so my TV, VCR, DVD, and stereo would all work together. Took me about 10 minutes to figure it out, but hey!!!! He's the professional right> Surely couldn't have been the first time he had to hook all of those things up together?

Just a guess but you have a diplexer from Radio Shack or other home store and a Dish 500 dish to split the leads from the dish. Either lead from the LNB will give you both satellites so either remove the diplexer and home run to each receiver if only 2 receivers or get a dish network diplexer.

You need to buy Dish networks diplexer, the radio shack and others work fine for DriectTV but not Dish.
Good luck.

So.....yes....there is a diplexer before the 625 Dish. I had read that it should be installed "after" the reciever but......this was the way that the install guy did it, and it had been fine for 11 months. I'm just baffled, why one reciever will get all the channels that the other one wont, and vise versa. I'll take the diplexer out, and see if it goes back to normal.

Well......so far, you are a GOD! I removed the diplexer and got back all channels on the 311. Hooked the 625 up to one t.v. ( not enough cable to get the the back of the 625 for the remote t.v.) and it works great too! Sounds like a few more miles of coax, and I'll be good to go! Thanks a million!

Oh...btw....do I still need the diplexer then?

I wouldn't throw it away, you can back feed the tv out signal with another diplexer and a sat splitter to control another tv using the same receiver but that is install 102, lets get 101 working first

Glad I could help.

I had problems with mine and it turned out being the connections outside were corroded due to condensation getting in the fittings.

O.K. with one diplexer removed, and the signal going straight to the dish, the single 625 works fine, as well as the 311 working off of the other signal from the dish. I did some reading......behind the 625 is a signal splitter that feeds both inputs for satellite "in" on the back. I think I see what the diplexers do. They send an additional output signal from the 625 to the remote tv. One diplexer to "send" the signal, and one to "recieve" the signal and send it to the remote tv using the regular wiring from the catv. So......I believe I have a bad diplexer ( like you said as well. ) I can, however, use the other diplexer just as a connector for the 311 ( it had a male to male inline connector to extend the cable that I needed to remove the diplexer) and it works fine.........should I just get another male to male connector and take the tv 2 output from the back of the 625 to make it connect to the regular catv wiring already in place in the basement? I think that way I can eliminate the need for the diplexers....? Maybe.........

In your case you should not be using ANY diplexers if your only running 2 receivers. If you have more receivers up to 4 you need a "multi switch" from Dish network, It's a glorified diplexer, 2 inputs 4 outputs and 1 ant in. A diplexer is much like a splitter but is a high/low frequency splitting device that used to be used (still is) for antenna's for local channels but now satellite companies are able to broadcast local channels.

So unless your trying to watch a 3rd tv without a receiver, remove and save the diplexer/s and sat splitters for future use.

If you are trying to back feed the tv out signal on the sat in cable let me know, I'll dig up some instructions, it's not difficult to do but easy to put the diplexers in back wards, it will still work but you will loose satellite signal on that leg if it's backward.

I hope I'm making sense.

Good luck.

I just reread your post and you are trying to control another tv from your 625 receiver, I'm going to bet your diplexer is good but backwards. The single end needs to be pointed to the other diplexer and the same on the other side.

So you have this for your diplexers.
outside sat in inside

> ----- coax----- <

Sorry but the > represent the diplexer the open end has the sat and ant pass. the closed end is sat/ant.

JUST got done removing the 2 diplexers ( there was really no need, just the installer was too lazy to run another piece of 10' coax! ) and everything works as well or better than ever before. After reading your posts, and doing some research on the pieces he had instlled, it started to make more sense. Thanks for all the help! Wifey will be VERY happy !

I'll bet your picture is 100% better if there was a diplexer trying to feed another receiver, lazy people

That is exactly what I was thinking! For $5 at the local home furnishings store, I fixed it all up, and YES! Better pictures too!
